She's pretty much right, even though some people would rather identify with their more white mestizo side rather than their african and taino roots and that's not to say there are no white dominicans but rather just it is what it is

You're black & look black. I know in some parts of America people are terrible with confusing race & ethnicity or nationality, especially on the East Coast.

But I'm actually from the South & had one Mexican girl ask me why does Zoe Saldana call herself black. I told her its because she is black, race & ethnicity aren't the same. I said she has African ancestry and the girl said I know but she speaks Spanish.

Now I realize she was equating black with African American. That might be what ppl are doing to you but of course that is incorrect. You are still black despite being Latino/Dominican.
