I remember the Unohana revelation got a BIG reaction cuz how she was portrayed and iirc not naming any previous Kenpachis.
Hikifune
Edit: Unohara
Not that this particular fight is what created the inspiration, but you can really see where that domain expansion idea gets drawn from when it comes to certain bankai/techniques.
Aside from that, the music and animation this ep
The contrast in tones and situations between the two locations were a bit off putting however. Wish they had more time to shine individually.

Unohana’s Bankai definitely gave me serious domain expansion vibes. Kenpachi learning the name of his Zanpakuto gave me chills.
Do I need to have finished the original Bleach to understand what's happening here? Watched the Soul Society arc and beyond that when Orihime was kidnapped by the Espadas. I don't remember much after that

Nah not really, any info you need gets touched upon
Idk how I feel about that Kenpachi s***, them two are some weirdos
It's like opening a box up watching two maniacs romanticize how edgy and psycho they are
The music and her bankai was like watching a Dark Souls/Elden Ring boss
Yoo that's exactly what I was thinking
today
damn I dont think I ever realized how much the art changed
Seems to be a fairly inefficient system to have two incredibly strong captains and then have to have one die or be disposed for the other to be the alpha dog

It's pretty on character for them to fight to death, they are both gruesome psychos. By a strategic point yes, there are few Sternritters who could have defeat Unohana.
She groomed Zaraki on purpose to defeat SS threats so I guess she is happy with the outcome of the match.

Yeah it’s nothing that breaks the defined constraints, and everything that led to this moment was well explained. It’s just funny that with a dearth of available captains, Shunsui thought that a god like Kenpachi was worth more than an elite in Kenpachi + a better than Kenpachi captain in Unohana lol. With who Kenny ends up beating, they did actually need him to be that powerful so :kanyeshrug:
Him scaling above a shikai Unohana that was blood lusted as a kid is arguably the best individual feat out of any captain to this point in the series tbfh

At least read and finish soul society arc to appreciate some of the characters

would be better to read the manga until fullbring arc then switch to anime
