Chivalry 2 is f***ing great on PS5. Though they have kinda let console players down with some…interesting choices.

Can’t change controls at all and the default throw command is L1 + R1 which each have their own default use…and them together is finicky at best. 50% of the time I won’t throw my weapon and will instead either do the L1 or R1 attack which usually gets me killed.

Also console players don’t have the “chase mechanic” which is just astounding how this is even possible in a coding sense. Basically on PC if you’re running after someone that’s running away, you get a slight speed boost to catch them. This mechanic doesn’t exist on console despite it being a cross-play game.

Other than that though game is crazy fun.

    sounds about right

feel like these type of games focus the pc support and community more than console. would make sense since these types of games usually start on pc and are bigger there

hope trackmania doesnt die out again because console players dont have much interest or lack of support.

yeah sadly. like idk why vampire survivors wasnt released on console, would be so fun

i guess console players really are more casual so devs dont see the point

Is vampire survivors good like that fr? I didn’t look that interesting but I only glanced at a bit of gameplay

idk i think it looks fun. it's like bullet hell mixed with rougelite/like. Theres already been a couple other games to follow it so im excited for the subgenre.

reviews are also good if you care about that.

I think for VS it's basically because it's only one guy developing the entire thing + some volunteers. I know it's supposed to be coming out on mobile at least in the near future

A lot of medieval games tend to be surprisingly technical too so it's harder to translate that on console.

i think it has plans of porting to xbox too

i dont just mean medieval games tbf, theres just certain types of games that are more popular on pc than console, and only come to console cause popularity.

like most console games dont get server lists, you have way less options on a controller vs kb, direction/selection control of mouse vs joysticks, etc etc. like stuff like tarkov just seems too much for console players or a small body. arpgs and mmos are other good examples

Yeah but that's just the nature of console. It's a more casual playerbase so they don't really give a s*** about stuff like server lists, they just wanna matchmake and go.

And some genres are just outright impossible to play on console. RTS is a massive pain, MMO's have made some ground (i.e. FF14) but it's still nowhere near as optimal. ARPG's (at least the popular ones) are all on consoles now tho. And then console players don't really care about more niche stuff like CRPG's and hardcore shooters like Tarkov or Ready Or Not.

Steam Deck is bridging the gap tho

yeah that's pretty much what i was getting at. Even the not so niche stuff just doesnt interest console players. Probably why ppl's taste tends to open up when they play on pc or watch pc gaming on streams and stuff. Id be down for those games to come to console, but i know interest and support would die out so

also yeah, stuff like rts, arpgs, mmos. Any game that utilizes fast panning of the cameras, a bunch of buttons, or fast and precise selection will just get bogged down on console.

also what exactly are crpgs? i was looking into yesterday but they seem to just be closer to rp/table top rpg like dnd and less action combat focused

CRPG's are "Computer RPG's". They share design fundamentals from a series of games from way back in older PC days-- Ultima, Wizardry, and the Gold Box games. A big part of that design lineage is that they're heavily based on DnD rulesets, so they're very narrative and dialogue-focused with the combat leaning towards modifier and roll-based mechanics.

Good examples to look at are Baldur's Gate, Planescape: Torment, the first two Fallouts. More modern CRPG's are Dragon Age: Origins, Divinity: OS series, Disco Elysium, etc.

Yeah that's about what i found when looking them up and from my experience with disco elysium

more on the immersive experience than feeling like some powerful warrior

Recommend Planescape Yes it's pretty dated but it's bar none the best story I've ever seen in a video game. And Disco Elysium took a lot of inspiration from it directly
