Doja had some issues going on didn’t she

Life Is Good was released right before the pandemic therefore killing its momentum.

Drake and Kendrick are two artist that would’ve competed with him but they pushed their albums back because of the pandemic.

Gotta disagree, in 2020 started a global pandemic. Major artist were hesitant to release because of not being able to tour. Also a lot was going on in 2020 with the election and social injustice. Music was not on people’s minds last year. If you can’t see how that affect artist and having legitimate hits I don’t know what to tell you.

And yet through all of that Blinding Lights persisted. This just sounds like you trying to delegitimize Blinding Lights as a hit, Plenty of competition dropped in 2020 Drake, Ariana,, Cardi, they all dropped and nothing lasted as long as Blinding Lights did lol it speaks volumes that despite all the turmoil of 2020 people still turned to Blinding Lights.

Also, pandemic or not, music is always on peoples minds. It is the oldest and most fruitful form of escapism there is.

Nope, just putting BL into perspective. BL already had released and Weeknd has his full album rollout before the pandemic. Ariana didn’t have promo for the album she just released it. It wouldn’t of mattered because of the pandemic. Drake didn’t do anything after LIG or LNCL to keep the momentum going. Like I said it was too much going on last year that music wasn’t a top priority culturally it was more of an afterthought. People turned to it because it was already familiar before the pandemic and The Weeknd is already a well established artist.

Part of that escapism is going to clubs, parties etc.

Music is also the universal language that brings people together, without that there’s no culture. Without culture do you see how that effect artist trying to release music during that time? Or are you blinded by your stan goggles?

Exactly...you don’t need clubs for music to bring people together it already does that. You’re just making excuses for artists being afraid to drop during all of this. It worked out for Abel, so what are they so scared of?

    🎯🎯

Well said. Kendrick comes to mind as being competition. Last year he would’ve made a huge impact because his voice fits the climate on what happened last year. However that didn’t happen. From a pop perspective nobody was in the mood for it. With people dying from police brutality and a now former president was a few moves away from starting a civil war, nobody trying to hear those type of records on a larger scale. That’s why I think Drake held off because he read the room. Weeknd benefitted from that, it was only room for one artist last year for that. He’s incredibly lucky in that sense. Something that no streaming chart will point out.

They were afraid because they were not able to tour.
