The problem internet rap fans/KTT has whenever someone says this is that y'all come back with "there is plenty of great rap, you just don't know where to look.." or mention some rapper nobody has ever heard of as being an example of why the people saying this are wrong. But that's the point--if you have to look for quality, the quality isnt there anymore. Underground has always been dope--its the mainstream that people are talking about when they say this
I get what he’s saying but it’s not rap as a whole that he’s talking about
can’t be, didn’t watch the video but hope that’s clear cause this quote makes rap sound one dimensional as hell & y’all agreeing with him is wild also
there’s positive rappers that are dope
Tobe Nwigwe for one
dawg everytime this discussion comes up ppl can’t (or choose not) to comprehend it’s within the context of mainstream music without explicitly saying it
like when ppl say “rock is dead” you don’t have to specify whether you mean some small artist because it’s understood. Only rap niggas online do this lol

Okay but when you have ppl saying yeah rap is wack & I don’t listen to rap anymore in “agreement” to his statement
then how else tf someone suppose to interpret that, clear communication is everything

most ppl ignorant enough to make that statement and agree more than likely see rap as a trend already so it doesn’t matter if they agree or not.
ppl that actually f*** with rap outside whatever backpack Artist they Stan or the 2016-2018 era don’t say that anyways

Then you niggas need to stop generalizing the whole f***in genre lmao
The mainstream niggas are only a small fraction of the genre its goofy asf to say the entire genre is dying because the mainstream is lacking

Positivity influences more positivity. Negativity influences more negativity. This just goes for life in general, not just bound to rap.

I don’t think that’s how this works

Tobe is an anomaly tho not the norm
He’s got some good points, even if I think swearing off rap all together is a little extreme.
I would say, from an outside perspective, that sometimes the line between simply expressing and sharing the poor conditions that many street rappers come up in vs glorifying some of the negative actions that those poor conditions lead to can get murky, which can lead some rappers to cross it, and it probably would be better for communities if we focused on overcoming the bad situations through less potentially dangerous means in the music.
Even still though, I feel like it’s not my place and I feel a little out of pocket talking about it at all, since I have never lived like that, so I appreciate someone who does have a greater perspective on the matter giving his two cents like this.
I been hearing a lot of folks sayin they "grew out of rap"
2016 was the beginning of the end
real rap
Yeah like I still listen to a lil bit of the stuff Bobby talking about but I definitely have more stuff on spin that isn't that. Also been diving deeper into more genres. I f*** with folk a lot and house music 😂😂. Crazy how one person who cares can change ya for the better we been rocking together for 3 years now

The Brooklyn rapper explains, "You got these f**king kids following you guys rappers... and you're f**king rapping about these lifestyles...It's endangering, it's very detrimental, very dangerous to the communities, that these kids think that is going on that you did not even live."
Shmurda went on to share his personal belief that rap should prioritize promoting a positive agenda rather than dwelling on the negative aspects. He expressed, "I think rap's supposed to be telling muthaf**kas to go from negative too positive, coming from poverty going to riches and stuff like that. And how to stay in that and how to change. That's the s*** that I want to hear, I want to hear about living life."
Considering his background and what's he had to go through, this s*** poignant as hell. I aint really mad at it.
This why I never really gaf that all his post-jail joints were trash. This nigga did 7 years in the joint (that in his perspective, was prolly cause of the type of s*** he used to rap and champion about) and is just happy to be living.

I know you and seven other people are not unironically praising a conservative viewpoint decades after the black community said you weren’t black for saying it?
There is one and it's full of dope stuff

good looks
Definitely. You talk to 4/5 non rap fans and they see current rap as a complete joke.
why would anybody care what people who don’t even like the genre and culture have to say about it
Not a single soul on earth in 2015-2018 would say "You got these f**king kids following you guys rappers... and you're f**king rapping about these lifestyles...It's endangering, it's very detrimental, very dangerous to the communities, that these kids think that is going on that you did not even live."
"I think rap's supposed to be telling muthaf**kas to go from negative too positive, coming from poverty going to riches and stuff like that. And how to stay in that and how to change. That's the s*** that I want to hear, I want to hear about living life."
And be taken seriously
