Then you niggas need to stop generalizing the whole f***in genre lmao
The mainstream niggas are only a small fraction of the genre its goofy asf to say the entire genre is dying because the mainstream is lacking
If the f***ing top of the genre is trash, don't you think that funnels downwards with so many people trying to reach the mainstream?
I mean coming up the mainstream was how I got into rap. I go back now and get into doom and s*** and find it surreal that this was out and I had no knowledge of it but how would a child find that? Lupe being next to Lean Wit It Rock Wit It on 106 and park gave me and my generation some balance. Now that don’t exist and all the kids like Yeat type music without a Lupe nas type next to it for balance
This is true but is it really the listeners fault for that?
Labels are the ones that control these playlists and what’s get pushed or not. On top of that these influencers will take money from a label to dance to artist #2,487’s song than an upcoming conscious rapper who probably doesn’t have a catchy song, capital or push to blow up.
I've heard other people like Joe Budden voice this very similar sentiment. There has a common denominator as to why certain rappers and/or rap figures end up feeling this way eventually.
More like he can't sell gangsta anymore
False lol. He's not a snitch like 69 or Gunna
But people are mad that he isn't trying to make street music anymore
rap is becoming a parody of itself
I don’t think it’s being taken seriously in a way it was at one point
This is true and honestly kind of sad and alarming
Somwhere in hip hop post XXXTentacion/Uzi/Peep/Soundcloud era the ball was dropped.

These niggas think we overexaggerating when we say songs like doo wop and ms jackson wouldnt be hits or get plays in the club today.

Difference is there wasn’t playlists controlling the narrative.
Streaming LOWKEY is killing hip hip no 🧢

But still, there were A&Rs and execs that put money into someone like Lupe or Nas back then that got them to where they are now. s*** it was hard to get on the national Radio unless you were signed.
Now Labels are strictly pushing negativity for a quick buck or cash out long term if the artist dies or goes to jail. I do agree that streaming has to do with the drop in quality in rap but like I said, the average listener just spins Rap Caviar and take what ever is fed to them like they did Radio back then.
Pretty funny ngl
Elaborate on this point? Kendrick, Cole, cordae, jid, are just a few examples of conscious rappers who have managed to pop in this era
If the f***ing top of the genre is trash, don't you think that funnels downwards with so many people trying to reach the mainstream?
No because there are a signifcant amount of rappers who dont give a f*** about the mainstream and actually care about the art
What type of argument is this
they needa put this in the library of congress atp

Kendrick and cole came up in a whole different era from jid and cordae dawg cmon

So? They’re still hugely relevant today in the mainstream
Why do only brand new acts count in this conversation?
Cole and Kendrick came up in a different era but they still dominate this current era

Which once again. Proves my goddamn point lmaooooo
Because its brand new acts that had to deal with growing up wanting to be “in magazines and in front of mom and pop stores just to discover niggas dont sell music no more or read no more” as vince staples once said

Quoting Vince and arguing Rap is dying is crazy

He been talking bout getting into other things all the time lmao i swear yall will be knowingly obtuse just to prove a point

Now look who’s missing the point
imagine saying “conscious rap is successful because 2-3 niggas from a decade ago are the popular rappers TODAY even tho more creative and just as dope rappers today cant get radio airplay” and thinking thats a good thing 🤣🤣🤣
