Honestly this is an interesting convo that goes both ways but what’s true for both trap beats and boom bap (and I assume you mean more Alchemist let the sample loop with minimal additions type of beats bc actual boom bap kinda requires you to make chops and s*** but I feel your overall point)…is that the first priority is what works for the rapper.

You don’t get bonus points for crazy Just Blaze Dilla drum and sample breakdowns / or in trap doing hella drum slides and extra sounds if the artist can’t ride the beat.

Ironically just saw a boi 1da clip today where he talks about how Drake takes a lot of s*** out of his beats.

Lazy sampling always sounds better than a lazy trap beat. But then again with loops the lazy trap beats almost don’t exist no more because everyone sounds like whoever the hottest beat style is now bc of loops

It is fascinating how you could literally fare better by essentially being a curator of samples thru being an Alchemist type producer than you would being a s***tynon music theory knowing MIDI producer, loops aside. However in both lanes the beats ain’t even the important thing it’s getting around the right people for your lane/style of beat lol

It‘s not easy to find a good sample tho. Madlib & Alchemist beats are easy to make. I think Madlib even said if you take too long/ if it ain‘t easy to make it‘s probably wack. But still most producers don‘t come close to their production. There are so many producers who are good at making own melodies but when it comes to sampling they produce garbage. SIMPLE doesn‘t mean everybody can do it. Fitness is simple. Train 3-4x a week. Stay in a caloric deficit. Sleep well. Progessive overload. Why can‘t everybody do it then?
