Ross had more of a National Reach, but people in the South wasn't really bumping him heavy compared to other southern artist.

I went to High School in the South in the Late 2000s, and I can tell you the Holy Trinity of that Era were Wayne, Boosie or Gucci.

Others mightve sold more records or had more of a national or international appeal, but those 3 were the most universally f***ed with artists in the city I live in (Charlotte, NC)

I'm originally from NY, but I always heard Southern People refer to VA as "Up North" and New Yorkers refer to it as "Down South"

I'd say "The American South" definitely starts as North as The Carolinas personally.

I don't consider those Atlanta niggas "southern rappers" because they make international/mainstream music. Or at least people like future. You still have to adhere to southern music elements to be a southern rapper in the conversation we're talking about at least.
