Also crazy how wild the late 2010s were for the comic book movie boom.
Venom made 856 million, and the original Suicide Squad movie made 749 million and they were both ripped by critics

Yup, and once upon a time, YA movies (The Maze Runner, Hunger Games) were going nutso at the box office
2023 really hurt Marvel man
Even if the movies are good, people are just tired of the MCU
They need to re-invent their entire formula post-Secret Wars, or do away with a “formula” altogether and just let the creatives work
S*** Fantastic Four felt like it was away from the typical MCU formula and it still flopped lol
We can’t say F4 has flopped yet
It could somehow find strong legs this month
It’s literally only the 8th day of release out of probably 45-60

Aquaman somehow made a billion
BUT I feel like everyone is looking at this in the scope of the MCU and NOT the scope of the Fantastic Four as its own franchise.
First Steps is the SECOND reboot of the characters where they have not one critically successful film and not a single film in the F4 has made over $340 million.
First Steps will be past that probably by the end of next week.

Great point. Thanks to Fox, F4 brand (movie wise) was cooked for 20 years

This is why overseas is (or used to be ?) so important
It did $800M+ overseas. Nearly $300M in China alone and iirc they dropped it there first. Even if you remove China it did amazing abroad

Right, but it’s also concerning because if this doesn’t pass $500M this will be yet another non-sequel MCU film that hasn’t crossed that mark. The last ones were Captain Marvel and Black Panther. Which, if you wanna say was because of the hype of IW/Endgame, fine, but before that both Homecoming and Doctor Strange crossed that mark with ease.
In Phases 2 and 3, every single non-sequel MCU film crossed $500M worldwide. So far in Phases 4, 5, and 6, none have

I think it’ll hit $500, might take some time though
I do remember Homecoming taking a while to get where it’s at tho
He not wrong, both Superman and F4 are underperforming at the box office, but then you step back and realize an absolute garbage film like Jurassic World Rebirth is about to cross $800M
At this point the audience is just as much to blame

#2. The market been saturated with cape s*** unlike dinosaur movies.

1. They really are not lmao
2. Never said it wasn’t, but it proves that it’s not just an issue of superhero films being good or bad quality wise. General audiences will see garbage films on a regular basis, Jurassic World still being a franchise is proof of that
People love dinosaurs. Jurassic franchise is the only place where you see dinosaurs on the big screen on a global theatrical scale.
Unlike superhero movies where there are tons of movies in the subgenre competing against each other, there's no real alternative or rival for dinosaur flicks from any other studio.
So Universal gonna keep getting away with making crappy Jurassic Park movies lol.
F1 the dark horse of this summer man. Happy that original and well made summer blockbusters are getting a return. Kosinski really perfected the formula

Thing is Superhero movies been mostly decent if not great this year (Thunderbolts,F4, Superman) but 2020-2024 quality was so awful that people will now assume that every superhero movie is a soulless garbage cash grab. Jurassic world movies been ass but the fact we get one of those each 4 or 3 years makes you forget about it whereas we get 3/4 superhero flicks yearly where 2 of those are mostly ass
Why did Warner and Disney decide to come out with super hero movies so close together? Seemed like a bad idea to me. Plus, the collapse of the Chinese (And overall Asian) market has to be concerning for both studios.
Americans have this wrong assumption that the world fw superhero movies. We dont. The Avengers era was a special time but it didn’t cultivate a long lasting audience. If its not Spider Man yall might as well keep it
