just finished the movie bout an hour ago and put together my thoughts.

as someone who was never into Formula 1 racing, this gripped me immediately and was a high-octane summer blockbuster for the ages. additionally, watching this in IMAX was probably my favorite theater experience of the year thus far. the sound and visuals were outstanding and deserve Oscar nominations. the performances were fantastic and i’m a big fan of Damson Idris in this film and I hope it sends his career into the stratosphere. lastly, Hanz Zimmer cooked with the score and it fit the film perfectly. even though it was a bit cliché and maybe ran a bit long towards the end, you really can’t ask for a better film to watch in the summertime.

saw this yesterday, was let down big time.

• Soundtrack was not that good
• The whole cliched plot outside of the races
• Forced fling between Sonny & Kate
• Races were dull, they should've shown more locations or extended the race set pieces
• Final race is a 1:1 remake of 2021 Grand Prix

Positives

• Brad was incredibly cool in this, his star power remains intact
• Damson did his thing so did Javier
• Cinematography was impeccable
• Daytona & Abu Dhabi Grand Prix was bonkers

imo this is one of those ultimate summer movies. beautiful, loud, action-packed, brad. executed at a professional level. I'm thankful for everyone involved in this.

btw the soundtrack for this movie absolutely slaps. been bumping it all day. perfect summer music.

You enjoyed the writing? Actual-cool white guy humbles thinks-he’s-cool black guy? Cliff Booth doing the same crash-to-win stick every time he’s behind the wheel? Brad being charmastic womanizer— who would’ve thought?? The inorganic dynamic between Brad and Damson going from angry to best buds with no effort towards it? What about the overly excited IM AFRICAN 😁 character? What about the SCREW PATRIARCHY 💁‍♀️ white girl character? Every part of script was just moving the plot forward in the most boring generic way, it did absolutely nothing challenging throughout the entire movie.

There was a moment of dialogue between the team where there had to have been like 20 cuts within 1 minute. It was jarring as f***. Have you seen any other racing movie? It did nothing new— from windshield POVs, or team to driver comms, or crash moments— literally nothing new done. The only moment was the opening shot and even that was just a landscape-to-subject zoom shot just done on a huge scale.

I went in expecting to watch a fun movie not see a Best Picture, but I left without seeing either. Buns man. You couldn’t convince me otherwise
