Fresh out the theater. was this Zionist? I think it can go both ways

I’m surprised that’s the point the most discourse is about, I thought it was put in the movie in a very nuanced way.

Lots of discourse about that rn. Some have said it isn’t enthusiastic or positive in its portrayal of Zionism? But I haven’t seen it yet. Emma Vigeland said it’s ‘critical towards zionisms traumatised converts’ which made me interested to see it’s perspective. Not sure if that’s true tho

Brady recently used an award speech to call for a Palestinian documentary about the west bank to get distribution/Oscar nods though. Not sure if that informs anything that’s in the film

not sure if someone said it itt but it can be interpreted as a "pick your poison" kind of thing where you pick between america and israel (lol) but it can also be interpreted as straight up zionist so idk

I don’t think there’s evidence strong enough throughout the film to say whether it’s pro or anti Zionist at all tbh. I don’t even know if it’s a bigger point being made about Israel. But maybe I’m missing something

Helluva film

First half is 5/5 tier filmmaking. I was enthralled. I wouldn’t say anything like the second half “falls apart” but the pacing compared to the first feels more drawn out and there’s an abrupt change in theme

More movies should have intermissions damn near everyone in my theater took advantage of it, went to restroom, got more snacks, stretched their legs, checked their phones, etc.
