Why is this game so beloved? I'm asking out of curiosity.
It’s nothing like you’ve ever played before
Honestly I haven’t even put 4 hours into the first one. Only game I have on Switch Lite and I haven’t pulled it out of the glove compartment in forever. Something about LoZ just doesn’t hook me like that

You’re missing out big time
Unless adventure games aren’t your thing

Imma keep it real, this game is a slow burner but the payoff is great man. This the only Zelda game I played through fully. I felt that though at first, I was like “Bruh the f*** the hype about this game? S*** is slow as a b****.” Eventually you realize how deep the simple mechanics actually are and the game lets go of your hand really quick and you become extremely immersed in it all.
It’s easily a top 5 gaming experience for me personally. At the very least, I’d say try and beat it. I’m not saying you’ll love it or think it’s as grand as a lot of people say, but it’s a great enough game for you to at least put the 40 hours of running through it into imo.
I’m really excited for the sequel. The original has a lot of great elements but there are some pretty glaring issues with the game imo. If they can polish it up with the sequel and tell an even better story, this might be a legit 10/10 game
I wonder how ambitious they’ll be with the size of this game
with master mode and the expansions i was able to pull like 400 hours out of botw (me and my gf combined total time)
I hope they give more attention to the post-game; I loved botw and put in 200 hours the first two weeks I had it, but after beating the campaign and doing the major side quests and stuff I kinda lost interest. the smaller missions don't do much for me, I want more story/lore driven quests

Open world game, like Skyrim. What really makes it stand out?

Never played Skyrim but I don’t think it’s too similar
Imo what makes breath great is that whatever you want to do, the game will reward you for it whether it’s following the storyline or completely exploring randomly you’ll have fun doing it and won’t regret it
You will find urself going the complete opposite way you wanted to go just because something caught your attention and you wanted to go for it

So in all fairness, having played both games, BOTW is the closest Zelda game to Skyrim, while still maintaining true to the story telling that made Zelda so lovable.
Imho, if Skyrim’s in your top 3, playing BOTW is a safe thing to do.
Started playing the first one lately for the first time since last April. It’s really fun and I forgot how good it is
need proper Zelda dungeons
no more divine beasts bs, was one of the few things that I didn't like about BOTW
