I think 4yeo is a great concept album on paper but bro doesn't have the finesse to flesh out the story and intermingle it with his own, had that album been executed perfectly, Cole would be something huge but as it is, it's a respectful album commendable for its daring approach so take that as you will
The biggest evidence of him not being great on execution was kod obviously, some people blame the beats, I actually think Cole tried to stack topics about different things and made it seem like it's connected without tying it together which was wack to me and his song Friends had the opportunity to be bigger had it not been for the disappointing ending of meditate don't medicate what goofy s*** is that
Bruh, you get it
4YEO was ass, blows my mind some people on here try to say it's a classic/his best album

I wouldn’t say it was ass but the title track definitely eclipsed everything else on the whole album lol
This how you get your daily fix it's sad
I like Kendrick and GKMC and TPAB are masterful concept albums. But two things can be true: his weakness is delivering a clear message without being wishy washy. His strength is storytelling but when it’s time to stick the landing and delivery the point or message, we get things like “I’m real I’m real I’m really really real” and “I choose me I’m sorry”
If Kendrick made KOD the message would’ve been “well addiction might be bad but actually it might be okay I’m not your savior I’m just a mortal man” like bro enough with the waffle rap.
Stfu
Dawg this avi is killing me coupled with your tone

Sounds like you just wasn’t ready for the message. The topics on KOD is definitely connected cmon
Mods should make him most a hand pic or ban him
Man was dropping n words all over when he first joined
Isn’t he Mexican?
Its impressive you’ve been doing this trenches gimmick for like 10 years
You’re a hall of fame poster bro

Let's agree that KOD is about addiction in various forms. Addiction to d****, money, social media, p****. How tf does Brackets, Window Pane and 1985 tie into that? You can quote a few lines from those songs to make it applicable, but you'd be reaching because the overall message of those songs don't address addiction. Which is exactly what bro said - Cole stacked a bunch of topics on there without really tying them together
And hilarious that you criticize Kendrick for not sticking the landing when he has to deliver the point/message when this nigga J Cole told d*** addicts to just put the d**** down and meditate instead
Some dumb s***, especially from a nigga who saw his own mother addicted to crack
Cole actually more consistent than the other 2 for me. Cole consistently in the 8 range it’s the other two who have more highs and lows
Agreed
But that’s because Drake and Kendrick are less formulaic
First time seeing that music video, almost as good as the song itself.. I enjoyed the s*** out of the Rich Baby Daddy music video too. Damn
Unfortunately that internet meme did enough damage to the peoples mental and J Cole will never get a fair shake for certain ppl

Kids on d****
King overdose
Kill our Demons
Brackets and window pain apply to the 2nd and 3rd one. Album ends at window pain.
Agree with the medicate part tho, executed poorly

Well “kids on d****” and “king overdose” are the same topic of d**** and “kill our demons” just feels like such a loose topic on its own if it’s not relating to the d*** addiction theme
You might as well just say “my albums about all the ills of the world” because at that point you could say almost anything fits with the theme
And the cover art clearly depicts a king and kids doing d**** lol

I mean kill our demons can also relate to d**** tho hence the song once an addict being about cole mom and step dad passing down their demons.
I’m also not saying that because Cole can’t stick to a topic or concept for a whole album it makes his projects bad. I f*** with all his projects on some level
And not staying on topic for a whole album is what most rappers do. This is just in comparison to Kendrick who’s one of the few artists (in any genre) who can center whole projects around a specific topic or story so well
Altho I will agree with @2words and say Kendrick’s last 2 albums (that I personally still like) definitely lack the cohesion and clearness of his message that gkmc and tpab had
But his discography is either Mid or CLASSIC literally no in between like wtf was that one with the Count It up song? That song suuccks lol
Atleast when Drake drop you know you getting nothing less than 8/10 and Kendrick.. well I’m in the trenches so ion really be checking him like that but DAMN was cool
Literally had this cross my mind listening to this hoe, s*** hard

That’s why I said “kill our demons just feels like such a loose topic on its own if it’s not relating to the d*** addiction theme”
Because obviously it makes sense in that context but if you say he meant it as peoples demons in general then you could pretty much say almost any topic that relates to the ills of the world could fit the theme of the album
