it’s easy to blame the label but for how many of these artists do we KNOW it’s the label and not them themselves?
Kendrick obviously is on his own time. Zay is infamous for not turning s*** in (it’s literally the intro to his last project). SZA perhaps, but they made her work extra long on Ctrl and look how that turned out (hint: good). Q is a father who also may be on his own type of time and Crash Talk was a reaction to how he felt about the way people reacted to Blank Face. idk what Soul and Jay Rock are up to, especially Soul, but when you a***yze each of these artists one by one things start looking a little different
the one thing you can kill TDE for is artist development or lack thereof, because besides SZA and Zay these guys have all been signed for a decade now and the new guys post-SZA/Zay (lance skiiiwalker, reason, zacari) all leave something to be desired for sure. SiR got it tho
