  • Had an incredible internship/co-op with my dream company in the industry I wanted in my favorite city in the country straight out of college last january after graduating in December.

Was hoping to turn the co/op into a full time but company went into full hiring pause and my internship program was cancelled in March due to Covid.

Been applying to jobs in all sectors non stop since March been crafting tailor made cover letters for every application. Not even getting rejection emails from companies now losing my f***ing mind.

Praying I can go back to old company but I'd thought I would be able to at least get some offer by now. Was able to find internships easily all throughout college within months of searching. I've had experience at two fortune 100 companies internships at management consulting companies a successful tech startup, stem degree from a top 10 public school and can't find jack s***.

I don't what know more I can do as a recent grad and have totally lost hope at the end of year. Stopped doing cover letters at all in November i'm just bitter and rage filled now at the process like at least send a god damned f***ing rejection email if i'm gonna make a cover letter whats wrong some of these companies and basic human decency. Living at home is nice and cherishing this unexpected extra time with my parents but feel bad leeching off them and miss the city life. I think i've reached 900 apps now since march and f***ing nothing

Check your resume over and make sure there's nothing off/wrong. I sent out about 300 resumes without a call back. Turns out indeed corrupted my s*** at some point and f***ed the whole thing up.

Besides that, just keep going man. If you find its not working out, see what your missing or start following up. Theres tons of services to get resume help, and sometimes its minor s*** that hurts you.

Honestly just hoping its the pandemic thats dried up the market or made companies more hesitant on hiring, I've had my resume proof read by like 6 people and they've all really thought it was polished and I added their recommendations to it too. Did have interviews with 3 companies in industry I was working so haven't been totally dry in but hiring pause halted interview process but they've said they''ll resume when they hire again which I have no idea when it'll be. F*** COVID ruining jobs

I'm just tryna get my side hustles off the ground at least, but Covid really puts a limit on what you can do out there.

Yeah man that’s the downside. It has been an awful year for a lot of people especially those who have recently graduated. I hope it’ll be better once people are protected from it.

One thing I’ve seen people recommend is to look at the LinkedIn of people working in your sector and try to write what they do in your application/cover letter.

And try to hit as many keywords in the job specification as possible.

I wanted to contact by old manager about maybe coming back. Told them i'd keep in touch when program was cancelled but just had too much anxiety to reach out don't wanna seem desperate.

When you’re looking for a job most of the time you have to leave the pride

I mean there are times when some people look weird when applying for jobs but you have to remember there ARE people that seem desperate and those people are desperate because they might have things going on in their lives.

Do what you can to prepare yourself for this year.

There was a guy that emailed me back about work after I sent a cover letter but by that time I had already gotten a job. I wanted to work there in the future so I followed him on Twitter hoping to get closer to him and then eventually message him if I wanted the job lmao but I haven’t cos so far I’m happy with what I do

Symptom of societal collapse right here.

  • Ive been struggling to find one as well, been looking for an internship since may, and i need one sometime before i finish grad school this summer

Im honestly tempted to just take an unpaid one just to get more experience to throw on the resume

There’s nothing desperate about that, especially if your old manager liked you and you were a good employee.

There’s just too much competition and so few openings. COVID has pushed employees to look for senior people. For new grads right now, the main way to get a job is through connections. 90% of jobs are already filled by the time the job is posted. They know exactly who they want to hire, the posting is just a formality.

Best bet is just getting the most convenient job you can if it’s a money thing and they are hiring

Once this pandemic settles down and the job market starts recovering im sure you’ll be able to get back to your dream but don’t stress about it right now cause the job market is f***ed up, it’s not your fault.

OP if your school (or any other schools near you) throws career fairs go there next semester

they're still doing them virtually even though COVID

  • Jan 3, 2021

    The struggle is real.

Also, have you tried recruiters? Getting some temp jobs? I know it might not be the most ideal situation but most contract roles you get w2 and benefits.

In the meantime keep applying but have the contract role as income/ experience.

    Keep your head up
