Agreed. This is easily his most personal work. Maybe that's because it's not being filtered through a specific theme? It's also his saddest. These feel even less like songs and more like a collection of psalms or actual spoken word poetry, cause the production's so minimal

Completely agree, and, good a***ogy. It should be hard to listen to, but I can’t get enough of it

seems to be the highest they've rated a Ka album yet

"Maybe that's because it's not being filtered through a specific theme?"

i'm feeling that point a lot

strict concepts are cool but albums that leave more room for interpretation and individual feelings have always been my favorites

all it needs is a little theme, which is a given with Ka albums anyway

Great review. This puts it so well about Reward being his most personal:

Where on past records, Ka would often play a slightly detached narrator, here he inserts himself into his own mythologizing as a kind of truth-bearer or guiding light, breaking up his dense lyricism with gnomic screeds and calls to action.

Well said. And you’re right, it’s not like there’s no theme—the larger narrative of the record tells us that the martyr’s rewards are gratitude, reflection, wisdom. Whereas these aren’t new themes for him, he hones in on them here, and you’re totally right that the openness of the “theme” allows for wider interpretation.

Going back to this record being akin to his earlier work, PWH sounds like it 100% could’ve fit on TNG.

Bought Haram, missed HBO, couldn’t justify the price. It’ll defiantly increase in value but $333 for a vinyl

I did get prey for Haiti when that dropped, but I’ve never really been the biggest Mach fan. HBO is my favourite though
