Tunnel of Love was my breakup album last year. Listening to it again tonight, I'm just gonna cement it as my favorite Springsteen record. Conceptually a picture perfect life span of a relationship that ends. People sheepishly call this a divorce album. But if you've loved (and lost), you'll get something out of this album.
"Well, it ought to be easy, ought to be simple enough
Man meets a woman and they fall in love
But this house is haunted and the ride gets rough
You've got to learn to live with what you can't rise above
If you want to ride on down, down in through this tunnel of love"
I feel like it’s his most underrated album. Like it is never in any discussions about his work anymore and the quality level is too high for it to be as ignored as it is
Some of them have been rumored for nearly 40 years
I’ll post a bigger breakdown when it gets closer but basically
The first disc is the 1983 demos he made in his garage in LA— the missing link between Nebraska and Born in the USA… Some truly standout tracks on there.
Here’s “Follow That Dream” which leads off the set: https://youtu.be/-QENM7o_ZXI?si=MuYU16A4OxFed3WJ
Drum machine, Lo-fi, that kind of vibe.
Second is the 1994 loop/electronic based album he made alongside Streets of Philadelphia…
Here’s “Missing” which was from those sessions: https://youtu.be/3h8FG3XsfPY?si=OKKiOCGytK1INXCd
Third disc is a gospel-inspired film soundtrack album that we know literally nothing about.
Fourth disc is the upbeat country album he made in 1995 alongside The Ghost of Tom Joad. Same recording setup and same artists. Should be a banger.
Fifth disc is the Tex-Mex, Mariachi, Aaron Copland-inspired album he recorded in the late 90s thru early 10s.
Sixth disc is a group of orchestral pop songs recorded alongside his great 2019 album “Western Stars” but with a more noir-ish vibe.
The last disc is the only one that wasn’t originally slated for release at some point, has a bunch of rock outtakes that Bruce wanted to add so the disc wasn’t exclusively left field type releases.
I know too much about this lol but this is really a holy grail level release. The only thing that sucks is that it took this long to release— I know several fans who have passed in recent years who would have been over the moon with this material.
Damn this sounds f***ing insane, thanks for the breakdown
The diversity
Almost 40 years of waiting for some of this
Definitely looking forward to the longer write up in the future
And RIP to all the fans that passed before this release

that album was there for a rough period in my life unrelated to the subject. hard for me to listen to these days but it will forever be my top 1 or 2

Exactly. It's a soul search record meant for a solo trip. Glad you got through it brother.
Saw Bruce live last night/early this AM doing a surprise set at the Count Basie in NJ… F***in smoked.
Hearing that the lost albums box is indeed on the way this year.
didn’t know this happened. what was this for ?
So KTT is cool with this c***dropping an album
But god forbid it’s a Hip Hop legend. Mfers clown em for still rapping and dropping albums
Ok
Atlantic City is such a banger. I'm not that into Bruce, but the album that is from is elite

It was part of the Light of Day foundation benefit. Bruce used to show up every year but has only shown up for the anniversaries in 2015 & 2020. I thought he might pull up for the anniversary this year and bought a $50 last row ticket months before… found out 3 hrs before the show he was gonna show up and drove down to Jersey fast as f***

He did a song with Jesse Malin, a song with Willie Nile, and then closed out the night with an hour set with Joe Grushecky’s band. Ended at 12:30am with an acoustic Thunder Road

Bro can u PM
This should be great
These lost albums are a f***ing trip man. Some of them I have no idea why he didn’t release them and some I’m like why did he bother making this lmao
Somewhere North of Nashville is a blast. I’m not a country fan really— but have always loved when Bruce flirts with the genre. Hearing him finally go full tilt is such a blast, especially because it’s a rockabilly/Western swing style record instead of a drawn out, indulgent “white rock star obligatory country album” kind of deal. Bruce serving forty minutes of hot roadhouse style country is a treat.
The Streets of Philadelphia sessions album was good but I think clouded by the fact that it didn’t live up to my expectations. I’ll give it another listen as there are some bangers on it for sure. But didn’t think I’d like the country stuff more.
Twilight Hours is lowkey worse than Working on a Dream oof
Working through the rest now. Saving LA83 for last since I’ve heard those songs for years on bootlegs
Sheesh where do I even start here
Guess with track 1
LA Garage Sessions ‘83 is so good
