he creatively finds ways to bite previous eras

  • Nov 1, 2020

He wears his influences on his sleeves and acknowledges as much, Nothing wrong with that. He’s not walking around as if he’s reinventing the wheel. Not everyone’s purpose is to push the envelope and if it still makes for good music, who cares

you say this as if 90% of rappers today aren't copy and paste acts of each other

Where would MJ be if it wasn’t for Quincy Jones, James Brown, Stevie Wonder, Janet Jackson, Dark Child, Teddy Riley and Paul McCartney just to make a few.

This same argument can be made for Luther, Whitney etc.

Be happy that ppl are making great music. Bruno found his niche and is cozy that he came up on. Perm is the funkiest song since Prince’s ‘Clorureen Bacon Skin pt2.’ it’s good we’re having this type of music being made.

    He's a glorified karaoke singer.

  • Bruno Mars gets held to standards higher than any other artist on this site and I don't know why

People coming at op for CLB in his name are lame

Op consistently supports great pop/rnb artists like Janet, Mariah, usher, MJ etc
The clb doesn't discredit his sound posts about pop music, y'all are pathetic and lazy

He's definitely talented - he can sing, dance, play multiple instruments - but he's done nothing that is his own. Even artists who aren't legendary or revolutionary can be themselves and have their own sound and image. He's just a rehash of the 70s/80s bands. His music is simply a copy and paste, which is why his biggest hit(s) keep getting sued over and over again. Even his performance style is a blatant rip off of that period. Instead of doing his own thing, he studies black acts of yesterday and crafts radio records for white, top 40 radio.

    He's a glorified karaoke singer.

He has a nice voice and is a good performer but I wish he'd do something ORIGINAL. He's like Ariana Grande. Very talented but can't express creativity or originality in any way. Hopefully his next era shows us BRUNO MARS. Not Boyz II Men, Janet Jackson, or Bell Biv DeVoe.

Hmm, you low key onto something OP

Dude has bops but it's pretty generic sounding, which isn't bad but yea.

  • Nov 2, 2020

F*** You is probably his best song, and he gave it to Cee Lo Green.

I don't understand why people can't wait for breakthroughs anymore. How many albums did it take for Marvin Gaye to be Marvin Gaye or for Stevie Wonder to be Stevie Wonder? at first they were making pretty generic music for the times.

Not that he's the same as those artists, but that s*** comes with time.

OP stole this thread from lipstick alley

  • Nov 2, 2020

He's not creatively bankrupt, he just prefers making this kind of 80s/90s revival type music.

It's not like he's hopping trends or anything, who else was hopping on new jack swing beats in the 2010s?

End of the day Bruno is immensely more talented than most of the artists on the site you all stan, and he fills a niche that no on else really does as well as he does

  • Nov 2, 2020

    he makes bops though

  • Nov 2, 2020

Couldn’t disagree with OP more. What an awful post.

modern pop singers aren't creative thinkers they are mostly just just privileged white people paid to perform other people's ideas. Their image and music are completely manufactured and force fed to the masses by a label budget.

    I agree

That’s the reason he dropped a throwback type album and reason he’s been silent since

It's like clb has become the scapegoat for roasting posters on this site. They see clb and if they disagree it's "he's a clb boy so his opinion doesn't matter"
