FlyHiiiI can't help but just link it to Kitano as a person. Like watching Hana-Bi and his character in that film after he tried to kill himself in real life. It's hard to not make that connection constantly when you're dealing with an auteur

I've heard people criticize a film like Battle Royale for it's violence with no meaning but i've always looked at it as a commentary on the high expectations and pressure being put on students in Japan. And the killings of each other reflect the high suicide rates
