Jan 4, 2022I think the best way to watch movies is to try and find the good in any of them, I remember watching this terrible Netflix horror with my friends, but we kept going because there was a really funny charming performance in it
When I see LB accounts with like 80% 1-2 stars I don't get why they don't just quit watching movies, why sit yourself through hours of boredom and unejoyment like that

sace 👍Jan 4, 2022·1 replyFriesWhat I said was that I've noticed a weird proportion of silent film nerds are right-wing and see Griffith in particular as part of a lost cinematic Eden before 'degeneracy' took hold, these people basically only watch Griffith, Stroheim and Flaherty and will praise some random modern movies for flavour like the Star Wars prequels
That's not to say liking silent films is inherently right-wing, but that's absolutely a kind of weirdo you can find a lot of on twitter, letterboxd and /tv/. I don't think liking silents mean's you're right-wing, I'm not right-wing but I enjoy a great many silent movies and consider Intolerance to be a pretty undeniable masterpiece even if BoaN is unwatchably racist
The point is stupid. There are communist propaganda by the works of Eisenstein or Pudovkin that are pretty much inherently left-leaning or perhaps anti-communist in a way. However, silent films have no political leanings, instead its a part of cinema history where innovations exist during that time. Griffith is anti-racist after BoaN because Intolerance is more of an antithesis of the film he made before. I consider that a masterpiece of cinema and even peerless in that manner. The wild mass psychosis mind viewed silent films unwatchable, but directors like Micheaux for example was a real hustler. I don't trust no one from "film twitter" to "letterboxd users."
