Does anyone have an explanation for the film Eraserhead? I'm referring to the visions and stuff. Why does Henry imagine a lady in the radiator specifically? I kind of interpreted the whole stage routine as his fantasy, and the sperm-like things that the lady crushes as Henry's regrets that he shot the club up and got his girl pregnant. But then you also get a scene with Henry plucking out sperm like things from his girl sleeping next to her. Can that also be interpreted as regret about his current situation?
At the end of the film, Henry embraces the lady in the radiator. What does it mean?

I always interpreted the first Lady in the Radiator scene where the sperm rains down as possibly masturbation, due to the fact that Henry attempted, but was unable, to have s***with this girl (where he attempts to touch her in bed and she shrugs him off).
The scene where he plucks the sperm out of his girl could mean that she cheated on him, fears that she was unfaithful, or perhaps that they actually had s***and he fears he might have impregnated her again.

Given that there's an ongoing theme about fear of fatherhood, you're prolly right that he was plucking out the sperm because of fear of impregnating her again.
Anyway, this movie coulda been two minutes long with a DNA test
I can't find the post but somebody here said that Villeneuve shoots movies that feel like documentaries. And I wanna say you changed my mind about this film. The more I think about Part Two as a documentary about human beings, the more I love it. This is so much about the uniqueness of the human experience in a seemingly lonely universe, just how different we are from any other creatures and between one another when it comes to Spirituality, Civilization, Language, Self Awareness, Technology, Abstract thinking, Long-term plans, War, Clothing clothing clothing. All these things are interwoven into the fabric of our clothes because they convey something about our inner worlds, and our identity. And that's why I will always love the costumes alone because they say so much without saying anything at all.
I love that everybody who worked on this did their homework and brought their A game to the table to create a world that feels distant and far off into the future but still human like watching a documentary about a tribe deep in a rainforest and realizing that so many things we go through and think about are universal. There's something about human nature that we instinctively recognize and I think translating that into a sci-fi movie has been a challenge for so many directors but it has become Villeneuve's strength. He understands it's the small details we subconsciously pick up on that make the bigger picture believable to us. I think I was so focused on a plot that I forgot that he has been trying to tell us the same story in all of his movies, Arrival, BR 2049, and Dune: What it means to be human and in that way he captured the essence of sci-fi as an allegorical genre that provides a space for introspection about human nature and our role in the universe.
Is there a thread in this section where people post must watch movies? Or movies they think are really good that came out this year (or last)?
