bobLove Kaufman and just watched that for the first time the other day and man that s*** was pretentious as hell
BUT, we all act like watching a pretentious film automatically makes it bad or try hard or intellectually dishonest or something which I don’t believe to be true
Something can be pretentious and also very cleverly written or make you think deeper about the material and tbh I like a pretentious moviegoing experience now and again
im not gonna pretend otherwise lol it was a good movieIts okay to like Pretentious s***

kogoyosthat's more like pandering than pretentiousness imo
though it's an overused/misused criticism, there are a few films that are definitely pretentious. best example is I'm Thinking of Ending Things, where the audience has to recognize Wordsworth poems, Ralph Albert Blakelock paintings, and Pauline Kael/John Cassavetes essays to really understand the film
Ehhh i wouldnt call im thinking of ending things pretentious. Cause you dont HAVE to know any of that to enjoy the movie. I didnt know s*** besides john cass references cause hes my GOAt and i still enjoyed the movie. but i see what you mean. When something is so obtuse where you literally cannot get it without some crazy understanding of something else on some intellectual gatekeeping s***. Like primer
But yea im a kaufman fan so im bias tbh.
Thats the only time i think a film is pretentious tbh

Everybody i really know on here knows me for my positivity and the way i reach out 2 people whenever they deal with depressing stuff
That really says something about this clowns character
He also keeps lying on my name for no reason besides me not liking the matrix, imagine how SAD one gotta be for that
Mans keep acting like i act like im
Better than the rest in terms of film taste even tho i never acted like that. I like both arthouse and more dumbed down stuff. He only likes the latter and somehow hates me for liking multiple facettes of cinema
