In this case (basically who I don’t want for policy reasons and who I don’t want for electoral reasons) I think I’m going to have to say Shapiro is the best bet.

I would of course be happy for policy reasons if Walz is the pick, but I really think he gives the GOP ammo to double down on the “radical liberal attacks” because of how he’s perceived.

And if the economy continues to take a downward turn she’s going to need all of the electoral help she can get (Shapiro helping in the biggest tipping point state and not further contributing to a “radical liberal” portrayal).

They’re gonna say that no matter what though.

Better to go with Walz to avoid any potential baggage, and the dude can communicate well with the rust belt and everyday workers.

Yeah but man Shapiro does have major baggage. Like major major. It'll be hypocritical of Trump & co. to attack him on the sexual assault case that his office had but it's still a legitimate attack.

Plus his major pro Israel stance will cause younger voters to lose some support for the ticket

Oh they’ll for sure say it regardless, but It’s all about how voters will perceive it.

I don’t think there can be any doubt that in terms of policy approach, state perception, and just overall personal ideological perception — voters will see Walz as way more left leaning than Shapiro.

And focus groups have already shown that Kamala’s biggest liability is being seen as being too liberal. I just don’t think she can go with someone that has that much of a built in perception.

I agree with you about Walz having good speaking ability, but I think Shapiro really does as well (in a different way) — as seen by his ability to win a large number of swing voters in his governors race and approval rating.

I don’t buy that the case will have any major affect — it’s not new news, it’s been out there since his governor race and had no effect then. He’s not the one debated for having done the sexual misconduct so I really don’t buy it being picked up

As for that stuff I’m just being real from an electoral perspective — you take losing young voters (who are by far the least reliable voters and vote at such a small percentage) in return for winning over moderate swing voters from the suburbs every single day.

    The Harris team loved him!

I assumed this much when they said they were doing face to face interviews. He seems way more personable and like he could win a room over with charm and passion easier than shapiro. But I still have resigned to the fact it’ll be Shapiro tbh. Walz will be a pleasant surprise

People are already calling Walz a communist on Twitter lmao

I’ll say it again — I would love him to be there personally but I’m already voting for her (as are 99.9% of people that would be happy about it). It would be such an electoral error in judgement to go with him imo.

I have no earthly idea how Walz gets higher in the process than Beshear or Kelly if you’re going the non-Shapiro route.

This is the type of ammo that the GOP has been dying to levy against Kamala and works really well with the suburban voters that she needs to get. Choosing a VP that furthers this image is a horrendous decision strategically
