where do yall think he falls on singing chart

Is he closer to like a weaker rnb vocalist like a brent faiyaz or pnd (i mean weak relatively to range, i think both guys can still sing but they’re clearly not a weeknd or a solange)

Or is he more like a blood orange or a kevin parker. (good vocalists who thrive on alternative production but not necessarily good singers in a tradional sense)

personally think he’s more like a kevin parker or blood orange type vocalist

i think vocalists like a brent still blows him out the water in actual fundamentals

Kinda think he lost his voice a bit honestly.

  • Nop, neither he can rap. Whereas Ez Mil the savior will take his spot

He can sing, he's just not a singer singer. Brent might be better, I don't think by a wide margin

i agree he was way better when he was younger

no one talks about it anymore but the post views singing cuts have been noticeably weaker on the vocal front

Plus HN (a project i love) could’ve definitely benefited from take care or sfg era vocals

Hold On, We’re Going Home doesn’t even sound like him

  • Brent Faiyaz definitely a far better vocalist. I think the Kevin Parker comparison is accurate, but his voice is also drowned in effects so I can't really gauge his vocal ability

People these days like songs that they can sing along too without sounding liking a dying cat. That's why amazing singers are not popping anymore and why the biggest R&B acts are Summer Walker, SZA, Mariah the scientist, and Brent Faiyaz. It's in pop music too. It's more beneficial to have a unique nonchalant voice rather than a great conventional singing voice these days. No one benefited more from that than Drake

He's a worse singer than everyone mentioned in OP tbh

I think part of the problem is that he's getting older and his voice is getting deeper and he hasn't really adjusted to it

He had a really nice, clear tone on Hold On We're Going Home that's very bright and passionate-sounding, but he's f***ing awful on Circo Loco and Falling Back. Not sure if the key isn't right for his range or what happened there.

Sans Drake, the names you mention all mostly occupy vocal ranges that the average person can’t hit. It’s their style of singing and enunciation that sounds less singy. This is cause the entire industry moved towards giving the audience relatability…but the image of it

Those singers are examples of the industry’s encouragement of deceptive relatability. The mfs who could actually sing had to assimilate to Drake’s immediate influence following Take Care since Drake was authentically relatable in his voice. Imo tho lol

I see this period of deceptive relatability in mainstream r&b vocals coming to an end tho to be clear

So he got ghost vocalists too?

  • Aug 11, 2023

No but the songs are good so that’s what matters

He def did. Relies on autotune a lot more now to deliver the melodies. There was a time where he was legitimately a good live singer to me, circa 2011

    lost his voice

My working theory is that as the industry became more accepting of rappers flat out using melody with no regard for signing chops, he kind of just disregarded his aspirations towards being a good singer.

Back during the Dianne Osbourne days, he took it serious but as the 2010's wore on, you saw rappers reaching the same melodic feats without being close to the singer that drake was IMO so as a result he became satisfied with just using melody, some autotune, and calling it a day.

Even with the live show, the autotune is way more pronounced than it used to be.
