Came in here ready to s*** on OP only to realize like three tracks have them high notes on After Hours lmao.

    Too Late
    Heartless
    After Hours

It seems like he can still do it, just chooses not to all the time. It’s probably for the best so that it doesn’t get too played out

He uses a Falsetto on Too Late + After Hours, dk if that's what OP was talking about

Honestly the only tracks on AH that have insane vocal acrobatics are Scared To Live, Nothing Compares and Final Lullaby

But AH is an amazing album so all is forgiven for me

as someone said in this thread its literally because of the rawness from his untrained voice. After Trilogy he started taking extremely professional lessons and sings in a much safer/traditional/professional way now and the rawness that emitted from Trilogy is gone which made his voice insane

his voice is still amazing of course it just doesnt hit the same

    facts

i will say as someone who has seen him live like 5 times his live performances keep getting better

I think he still can @op, but they're harder to deliver consistently on a live setting, which is probably why he uses his head voice much more now

I remember an interview of his explaining how In The Night was one of the hardest tracks to sing in his discog

You right. Got a link to that interview? I'd love to check it out

He wants to be able to perform the songs for a looooong time

Yeah it seems almost effortless how he can hit those crazy notes while running around and s***. From the vids ive seen and the vocal performance on After Hours I feel like he declined after either starboy or my dear melancholy though but imma have to judge when i see him perform next year

This performance was incredible. I remember watching it live and being amazed. I think we've agreed he can but he chooses not to for longevity

I don't think it's a coincidence that he started being safer vocally after bbtm. There's alot of challenging songs on that album vocally so it makes sense he'd wanna preserve his voice.

I was just thinking this the other day

The album was pretty okay as a whole but he was singing his ASS off throughout the entire thing

I've noticed over the past couple years, starting from Starboy,he's leaning more and more towards singing in a lower register. When Starboy dropped he said it was creative decision to test himself or something along those lines, but i'm wondering if he can still sing high for majority of an album. The song he teased is also lower

he can. you're just not supposed to sing at the top all the time, especially when doing album promo and on tour

he can still hit those notes (hopefully, he's only in his 20s) but unless he wants to go the MJ rout of being forced to lip sync when he's older. it's better to increase the strength of your whole range and not have to go up like that all the time.

does Weeknd use his falsetto, like ever?

I've only heard him belt in the upper fifth octave. I've never heard his head voice before

Almost all of AH is him using falsetto

He explained it in the American Dad episode. He's probably not a virgin anymore.

apparently the vocal coach he uses now likes to teach artists to sing in their head voice

    Why lmao wtf

  • Aug 9, 2020

I mean he smokes a lot and just turned 30 so of course he lost range. every singer's voice changes as they get older, and they have to change how they use it and adapt (like MJ did).
