Didn't want to put this in the Wayne section because I want to have an unbiased discussion.

I feel like I have to start off every Wayne discussion by saying that I love Wayne.

I've been a Wayne fan since 99 on The Hot Boys Guerrilla Warfare album.

After that was Tha Block Is Hot, Lights Out, and 500 Degreez.

As we all know, Tha Carter (2004) is when he really came into his own. New delivery, better lyrics, top notch production - you name it.

From there, he gave us mixtape after mixtape (Droughts, Dedications, etc.) with flawless features (We Takin Over, Weatherman, Make It Rain, Brown Paper Bag, Neck Of The Woods, Barry Bonds, etc.)

This all culminated with Tha Carter 3. No need to talk about C3. We all know the impact it had when it dropped.

From there, there was a vast decline in the quality of his music.

Sure, he gave us a few nice mixtapes after that (S4TW, NC, D6), but something was missing from his actual albums - C4, Funeral, C5, The Fix (I'll get to that later)

They all lacked the same delivery, charisma, and production that helped him achieve his status.

More s***talk became involved and he stopped using his cool flow delivery. It was almost like he was yelling.

Which brings me to The Fix.

This is probably the worst Wayne album I've ever heard and I'm not even exaggerating.

The production is generic and the subject matter is severely lacking.

The bars and clever flow is still there on occasion, but it's drowned out by nonsense. He's rambling more than ever, and it's soooooo frustrating because he shows that he is still capable of dope metaphors, but for some reason it goes off into s***talk.

So I ask - What happened to Wayne?

Why doesn't he get good beats?
Why is his delivery so sporadic?
Why has his subject matter regressed?

I feel bad because (and I said this in another thread) it's like he hasn't evolved as an artist AT ALL. You see people like Nas and Jay whom he is placed alongside with, and they've grown with their music. They have a mature aura about them. They speak from a place of influence and status. Wayne literally talks about p**** and d**** 90% of the time now. And yes, I know he's "always" talked about that, but not like this. He might've dropped a bar or 2, but never to this extent - except on IAMAHB2.

Last thing, people were clowning me for defending Birdman a few years ago but (business aside), I REALLY think Wayne needs Birdman. Birdman was never the bad guy on the MUSIC side that he was portrayed as. People kept saying that he was holding C5 hostage, when in reality, I'm glad he did. Birdman provided a level of quality control and was probably the only person that has the cache to actually step to Wayne and tell him the truth.

And as far as C5, people like the idea of C5. If you honestly listen to C5, t*** middle of the road. People get caught up in the "subject matter" and automatically think it's great. No it's not. The flows are off and the production is once again generic. Just because an artist has good subject matter doesn't make the song good. It has to sound sonically pleasing.

Wayne production is usually good people just let one mid/bad beat overshadow the rest.
