I feel like it makes the stigma around mental illness worse than it already is
I’m so sick of seeing a person abused etc in the worst ways
And they just grow up to be d***s and everyone hates them and the only person who cares is the hero for 3 seconds before he kill them
Can we get a nigga who been abused but just a normal person tryna get thru life
I’ve seen movies with protagonist who have been abused
I think the real problem is downplaying the abuse
Or when the message is “forgive your parents” or s*** like that when they really don’t deserve it
Like because I relate to his childhood and I see it in other media
Like it makes you wanna hate someone who’s been abused

Homelander isnt hated because he was abused lol he's hated because he's a homicidal maniac

OP saying that movies depict people with mental illness as villains

They also depict some heroes with having mental disorders, so what
I’m trying to think about movies where they aren’t and the only one that came to mind was The Sixth Sense

Usually it’s the villains and tbh I can’t name a lot of heroes like that

Some of these def apply to some hero characters on The Boys (per OP's homelander mention)
Villains with mental illness is fine. It's using that mental illness to justify the extremely f***ed up s*** they do in films, shows, games, etc is where it gets bad.
Take Kefka from Final Fantasy VI. Yes, due to constant experimentation and testing it caused his mental state to shatter and it formed into a legitimate illness and insanity. However, none of that s*** justifies him destroying half of the world and attempting to put an end to all existence once he becomes a god.
Joker is another example. Yes, that "one bad day" caused him to finally crack and it turned him into a lunatic. However, just because he is mentally ill/insane does not make him worthy of empathy. Mostly because he doesn't give a f*** about any of the horrible s*** he does or the amount of people he kills.
I agree %100, and we should also stop the evil s*** Hollywood and the entertainment industry does in general. For example, rape, pedophilia, promotion of d****, violence and sexualization through music and all the other evil s*** they do behind closed doors ...

also help the non-famous people who don't have as big of a platform to hold their abusers and rapists accountable
