I don’t think it’s right to be like oh it’s men that are controlling women’s body standards when most men have a wide spectrum of body types that they like. Most of the s*** that women stress about when it comes to appearance they care about it way more than men do

I understand that women care more than men about their personal looks and that new women arise

I’m talking about WHY they arise and it’s because of this incessant and ever present need to appease men that still exists in our world. Why there’s this competition between women over who looks better or over who’s man is who’s, etc etc.

At the end of the day it’s an industry based off of appeasing men and creating an inextricable link between women’s self value and their value in the eyes of men

Sure women change tastes but it’s mens’ reactions to those women that drive such changes. Kim Kardashian didn’t exist in a vacuum. It was reactions from men to her s***tape and subsequent popularity

There’s a reason there’s entire books regarding the “male gaze” and why we aren’t anywhere near dismantling patriarchal standards in gender relations

I mean male cosmetic surgery is definitely a growing industry, I've seen a lot more men get hair implants/chest surgery, etc recently. A lot of the time men are told to not do anything about their insecurities since its commonly seen as 'gay & feminine' or because 'real men should just lift weights or go to war'

There's actually a lot of journalism towards men in homecare regarding how to curate the perfect 'bachelor pad' or s*** like 'tools you should have as a family man'. Lots of women make articles & videos as instructions for men to fit into their standards.
