He's at least one of the greatest of all time.

It's worthless defending him now because the hate towards him has actually nothing to do with music, it's just people tired of constant overwhelming commercial success.

Jay had his phase where he was discredited and hated, Kanye too and Wayne more than everyone. And just like all of them, Drake will end up loved the moment he's not the overwhelming #1 option. The hate will then turn to the new guy at that spot, be it Kendrick, Cole or Trav.

Every artist you named besides Kanye had a spell of mid albums. That’s where a lot of the hate came from. Majority of the hate Ye got was never music related. It was always outside antics

At his most hated Ye dropped universally praised albums. One of those being among the greatest albums ever, the other being the most influential

Drake stans so delusional man wtf

lol I just find it amusing that OP tried to originally deny Ye as influencing modern sounds with 808s when the project the OP cited as birthing the "slow rap /atmospheric" sound has a Kanye instrumental on it lol

The tape you cite as birthing that sound literally has a verse over a Kanye instrumental on it my g. Lol & Cudi's A Kid Named Cudi tape deff had him over atmospheric instrumentals

the album also had a jay z instrumental i dont really see ur point

Oh really? Please send me a link to where Ye or Cudi are making slow rap and rnb stripper ballads over atmospheric, minimalistic instrumentals?

edit: But i agree that 808s allowed for male vulnerablity to be seen in hip hop even though Drake took the more of the beatings for his soft subject matter than kanye

Drake took more beatings cuz he wasn't as established, so it was just like who is this "soft yellow nigga makin stripper anthems".

When Ye dropped 808s he was 3 classics in by then.

the jay z instrumental was him on his freestyle backpack s***.

The Kanye instrumental was clearly an indication of where he was gonna head sonically.

Kanye has 5 undeniable classics and two potential classics. That’s 7. That’s the bar

take that imaginary bar away when u force genius status upon yourself and wife a kardashian

    your wifey your wifey👀

That could be a factor too but Kanye got more of a pass cuz he had just given niggas Graduation the year before and he was known as an "experimental" type nigga by then

Drake forced Jay-Z comparisons on songs and knocked up a camgirl. SFG, Take Care & NWTS are still great projects

I just fail to really see it because to me 808s is this muffled sounding album with heavy autone whilst so far gone is has this magical aura that honestly sounded so new and fresh but ill concede because more people agree with the 808s influence apparently 40 said it himself

808s is muffle sounding / heavy autotune but look at SFG and Thank Me Later.

Both projects had autotune on them and instrumentals with heavy reverbs and soft drums tbh.

Drake doesn’t have a reasonable doubt so right off the bat he’s not on Hov level musically

Rocowear was more successful than OVO
Rocafeller was/is more successful than ovo
Even his liquor is more successful than Drakes.

When you think about everything he’s done has been a cheap knockoff of what Hov did
