season 1 was like what studios usually do for movies. the shading and lighting were so dynamic and with softer complimentary colors. i loved how the animation was fluid and mimicked actual film making. the transitions, the angles, the “camera” movement.
the movie looks flatter and like any other typical anime. there’s constant planning and rotating with hard cuts. it’s not bad by any means, but again, it looks like anything else.
just knit picking and it won’t ruin how i feel about the movie but it’s honestly such a shame because season 1 was special
i feel like people (especially season 1 defenders) need to genuinely do a reread of csm part 1 because this movie was the most accurate depiction of it from a visual and humor standpoint lol

also imagine looking at the pool scene or literally any bit of the last half of that movie and thinking it was a downgrade visually

no spoilers but i finished it and it was pretty awesome. loved the sound design and music especially.
the animation does go all out in the third act. like really all out. it reminded me of JJK but on steroids. made sense once I saw MAPPA in the credits.
but then i looked up who did season 1 and it was them so i was even more confused lol. something about the Japanese audience hating season 1’s style and they fired the director and made it more “true” to the manga. idk, i do not keep up with stuff like this.
it is what it is but it’s funny seeing redditors glazing the hell out of this, throwing words like “cinematic” just because big animation sequence goes BOOM lol
i’d give it an 8.5-9/10. it’s structured like an actual movie instead of episodes tied together. would definitely watch again especially since those fight scenes get so bonkers half of it doesn’t register

to be fair, i did not read the manga lol
in general i get why people want a faithful adaptation of their favorite books, manga, video games, etc. but it doesn’t have to be 1:1. like… they’ll always have the source material. like Jay Z’s “want my old music buy my old albums” or whatever bar
i think an ideal compromise would have been to change the art style to fit the manga but retain the fluidity of the scenes
