Read chainsaw man finally so i could read part 2 weekly. More than the story itself which is quite good, what i loved the most about it was fujimoto himself, in particular his writing and overall talent as a mangaka. He's just too good at paneling, his manga is always so cinematic, you can tell he's a huge movie nerd without even knowing him all that well, and for the type of stories he tells the cinematic approach fits. Chainsaw man reads like a full length movie, with its strengths and weaknesses. I love how easy flowing it is, it lends itself well to multiple re-reads, the pacing is really fast and the story is entertaining all the way through, there's lot of creative paneling, the action is tight, flashy and gory, the power system is interesting, the cast is overall good and certainly memorable, thanks to fujimoto's ability to greatly understand and lay out characters that feel human, i love that batshit insanity that is present in all his works and i guess is his trademark lol. The story is nothing truly groundbreaking, the premise reminds me a lot of devilman and for a good 5 volumes follows that linear, monster of the week progression that slowly entroduces you to the world, characters and the stakes in place, but its with the latter volumes that chainsaw man shines to me, especially volumes 6, 8, 9, 11. Volume 6 in particular to me was my favorite part of it all, presenting a short love story between denji and reze (my favorite character) that feels so real and intimate, all told in 9 chapters, in which there's also an amazing battle. Truly his biggest strength is telling stories about the human condition that stick with you using only a few chapters, like he does with his one shots (goodbye eri being my favorite). The ending was bizarre but fitting with the story and fujimoto's style so i really enjoyed it. The biggest weaknesses have to be part of the cast, notably himeno, who unfortunately i didnt feel too sad about her death because of the lack of proper screen time, most of the killers and kishibe, and the pacing that yes, i did note as a positive overall, but towards the end kinda made it all flow too quickly, not leaving imo enough time to stomach everything that happened in the last 3 volumes. 3, arguably 4 very important things happened (gun devil, what was thought to be the antagonist of the story, so a huge deal, aki's death, the reveal of makima as the true enemy and the true identity of chainsaw man) all happened in such a close proximity that some of them had less of an impact than i hoped. Aki's death tho was executed perfectly, thanks to fujimoto's amazing cinematic direction, so at least that wasnt ruined.
Overall i enjoyed it a lot, but ironically what i loved the most was seeing this man getting better and better at his art, and god the expectations for part 2 are through the roof, since he'll be published in jump+ which im sure will let him go even wilder with his imagination.
Im somewhat both scared and hyped for the manga fujimoto will be making in 5/10 years, he has immense potential.
its time
new character kinda looks like kobeni lol
new character kinda looks like kobeni lol
her eyes look like makima’s too
her eyes look like makima’s too
yea i peeped that
im thinking nayutas not the only reincarnation of her
That was a way to come back lol, chapter didnt show the protagonist but the likely antagonist instead. Found interesting that it starts with the teacher wanting his students to empathize with the devil, that didnt seem to be the case in part 1, so maybe chainsaw man, and by association denji and his whole belief of devils that should be treated as humans if they are friendly, may have swayed public opinion on them. Seems mitaka doesnt like the way denji has changed society, since it seems its implied the corruption she speaks on is caused by him. Bucky being introduced and f***ing dying a stupid death like 10 pages later was funny. Mitaka is interesting, she hates devils, apparently because they caused her parents' death, but i think there's more to it, although i cant pinpoint what it could be. She seems to be insecure, or at the very least she hates herself and projects that hate to others, especially those who to her seem to have all she couldnt. But the revelation at the end that she was not that different from the others, that everyone has someone they're jealous of, right at the last 0.1 seconds of her life, was dope; loved especially the paneling of that page (Pg 38). It seems she has a sense of law and order, since she follows the law even when not needed, which may be connected to why she hates chainsaw man. She like denji gets a second chance at life, only this time she may be subjugated to the war devil, unlike denji's contract which is basically the opposite. War devil is probably one of the 4 horsemen makima was talking about, and its looking for chainsaw man. Very interesting she mentions nuclear bombs, since according to makima it was forgotten by people thanks to chainsaw man's powers
Just noticed she wants csm to VOMIT BACK UP nuclear weapons, this devil is a menace, because that means she wants all the weapon devils chainsaw ate up to power herself up, since war logically would be powered up by them
Loved the justice devil transformation, the paneling in pages 32-33-34 is classic fujimoto.
The battle was insane, how tf you can think of making a sword out of someone's spine
Also the goodbye eri reference was fun, made me laugh irl.
My biggest question rn is if mitaka has become a fiend, a hybrid like denji or something else
What the f*** can a nuclear weapon devil do considering what the gun devil did in part 1
I want to know what's the deal with fujimoto ripping out intestines
demon guts are canonically colored like confetti
What the f*** can a nuclear weapon devil do considering what the gun devil did in part 1
cause cancer and other damage due to radiation
Always loved fujimoto's use of onomatopoeia in paneling and compositing, this man is a genius at this manga s***
What the f*** can a nuclear weapon devil do considering what the gun devil did in part 1
probably simillar stuff to the Bomb Devil/Reze but on a much crazier scale plus the gnarly stuff nuclear power can do
Was hoping to see Denji but man I’m so glad this is back, her eye change after the war devil possessed her reminded me of makima could be a bait and switch
