He lost me wit this one. At first the loosies pre this album and post that shag album was cool. Then when I saw he started promoting this Triller/hit the woah ass music I was like yeah I’m cool

I feel like that was moreso a culmination of Chance’s buzz than about the project itself. That kind of felt like his debut until he clarified over and over it was just a tape

Honestly most of his original fanbase felt he sucked after Acid Rap like Coloring Books success was really carried by the goodwill of that tape and not itself imo.

Big Day had to essentially continue his massive breakout while not having a large portion of Chance previous fanbase and it just wasn't good enough for that.

Essentially a lot of his fans already felt he sucked since 2016 but Big Day just wasn't big enough too cover it up

Coloring Book is trash, Acid Rap his best and only good project not counting the new one because I can't get through it

He delayed his “debut” and made a big deal about it being his “debut”, set high standards and missed the landing. Then he waited 6 years to follow up.

Donald Glover kinda exposing him, Coloring Book success, and all them endorsements got to his head.

The reception to Big Day was inevitable. During the wait between Coloring Book and Big Day, the tides were already turning with Chance and his "life is awesome, God is good" persona he was really dialing in. People were already talking about how corny he was before the album came out, and unless the album was like a complete 180 from what we knew of him at the time, the reception was going to be the same regardless.

I agree that the hate on the album is performative because a lot of people can't even explain why it's so much worse than Coloring Book or that Donnie Trumpet album but what it really comes down to is that no one was trying to listen to that kind of music in 2019.

To be fair he was huge and on top of the world but a great example of not knowing how to read the room nor having pivot ability.
