Donald Glover kinda exposing him, Coloring Book success, and all them endorsements got to his head.
What happen with donald
Yeah Chance just mismanaged himself something even his ex manager said like he made outright dumb choices in spite of advice given
Anywhere where his manager spoke on this?
Surprised he didn’t put a hit on Fantanos head
The reception to Big Day was inevitable. During the wait between Coloring Book and Big Day, the tides were already turning with Chance and his "life is awesome, God is good" persona he was really dialing in. People were already talking about how corny he was before the album came out, and unless the album was like a complete 180 from what we knew of him at the time, the reception was going to be the same regardless.
I agree that the hate on the album is performative because a lot of people can't even explain why it's so much worse than Coloring Book or that Donnie Trumpet album but what it really comes down to is that no one was trying to listen to that kind of music in 2019.
Facts said something similar in here earlier. After 2016-2017 that type of earnest warm soulful rap star just wasnt gonna work
Nothing would have saved him except a persona change although a better album would have gave him a fighting chance
After watching the video though i wonder who he was talking about having problems with behind the scenes
Cuz I did think it was odd we just happened to find Dame Dash’s dumbass unreleased documentary on daily motion one day
And I did think it was weird for them to have the clip of Kanye b****ing chance out in it
Could very well be some truth to what he’s saying but all the f*** ups he made makes it sound like he lacks awareness
Carl Chery or whoever was over Apple Music at the time come to the front lol

it doesn't get mentioned much these days, but i think the MTV news thing was a major dent in his wholesome nice guy persona. a lot of people already thought his personality was forced and phony and he confirmed their underlying annoyance wasn't unfounded.

Having enjoyed repeated success with the release of his first three mixtapes—10 Day, Acid Rap, and Coloring Book—Bennett announced on February 11, 2019 (without consulting with or giving advance notice to Corcoran) that he would release his first studio album in July of that year. Given the significant amount of work, care, and attention needed to produce an album, Corcoran expressed serious concern with the projected release date Bennett had unilaterally announced for the album. Corcoran knew that in view of the commitments Bennett had in early 2019—including his own wedding—it was likely there was not enough time for the creative process that was involved in releasing an album, and Corcoran advised Bennett in that regard.
Corcoran opposed announcing the release of any album before the recording or writing process even began, let alone was substantially completed. Compounding the issue, Bennett’s recording efforts were compromised by unproductive and undisciplined studio sessions. Procrastination and lackadaisical effort, perpetuated by various hangers-on uninterested in the hard work of writing and recording, resulted in a freestyle-driven product of sub-par quality, a complete deviation from the meticulous writing process that brought Bennett fame for his wordplay and wit
It’s so hard for artists to admit when they made a bad album
