Nah Chris puts up numbers. Isn’t he one of the biggest selling male R&B artists ever?

    I think so.

But MJ dominated across ALL genres, which is why there is no 2nd to him if we step out of his generation. Only artist like Mariah, Janet, Whitney were able to have hits in multiple genres and dominate so many different genres at the same time... and they also have hits by just their name.

No one is touching him or even getting close because his name got him such huge hits. No other artist in the past 25 years has been able to do that for a long period of time like him

Edit: Add Madonna and Prince to that list as well

Thought this said “chances of another Michael Jackson album” I was tryna figure out the nicest way to break the news

Well to me, being the “next” MJ (which is already a moot idea in itself but let’s entertain it anyway) is more than just a music or performing thing

I don’t want to psychoanalyze but you can’t talk about MJ fr without talking about what we actually knew of his mindset cause it’s such a big part of who he was

A lot of what made MJ who he was as a creator and collaborator came down to who he was as a person - and he was a strange person, even strange for a high profile celeb. The guy had no real childhood so he was very childlike in a Peter Pan/Batman sorta way, this shaped his creative vision that we know and love, from his songs to his videos to his dance moves

He was also incredibly ambitious, almost to a fault. In a way most artists wouldn’t feel was necessary for them to be. So it really starts with who the artists are as individuals, and not to say they need to be like MJ but the point is that it would take someone both crazy ambitious and kinda...unique psychologically to reach those heights in such an unpromising, fickle and demanding industry

The most important thing with not just MJ, but being a legend in general is TIME. We are so quick to give people these legendary and iconic titles so soon it's a disservice to the ones who actually earned it. I don't give the legend title to anyone until 20 years after their debut. In the case of someone like Justin Timberlake who was in a group, 20 years after their solo debut.

Yeah I agree and people are quick to label every song every album a classic quickly diminishing what the word means

nigga had hits at 11 and was still taken serious as an artist as he got older we’ll never see anything like that again

  • Sep 5, 2020

We’ll never see another MJ, at least in any of our lifetimes
