damn thx for sharing @op I mean you would expect stuff like this to happen in some capacity but the strategic psychological manipulation and scale of this, running a whole service of this kind makes this very eerie.

on the other hand -- I'm again reminded how important it is to leave comments for your fav underground artist or artist friends. I add a lot of stuff to rym and leave a comment on there and I've actually had it a couple times that just leaving some hype comments helped someone build traction.

maybe the most extreme example of this is a japanese rap album on rym I left a comment on years ago when it had only 5 ratings and now it's the #1 japanese hip hop album w 1k+ ratings lol

I have many rym comments scattered across gems 100% agree

oh word do I already follow u on rym by chance lol? (my @ is the same across platforms)

but yh finding old comments of yours is so cool/ weird, especially when you don't even remember listening to something sometimes on film pages also it's like damn a me who was a completely different person already had a take on this lol. I've had an account since 2015 and left so many comments on random pages over the years lol

Geese fan bias aside, this is a bad article with an objectively incorrect and sensationalized headline. Deceptive online marketing is not the same as being an "industry plant", that term has lost all its meaning at this point. Also, Geese was not a wholly irrelevant band prior to Chaotic Good Projects getting involved, they were already touring across North America and Europe in 2023 with 3D Country, which the article completely omits. Geese got a lot of Buzz in 2025 with Getting Killed but they didn't emerge out of thin air, especially for people tapped into indie rock. CGP also denies using "bot farms" for what it's worth. People are basically creating their own narratives to feel validated about disliking certain artists.
