It's also common sense to not make robots that can break people's fingers on reflex
You say this like it wouldn’t mean the disposal of most automated machines 😂

im talking about robots not all machines are robots
most machines dont have the ability to use a wide range of motions like animals. if you make robots that are able to move like animals and have advanced intelligence they might do destructive things

Unfortunately pretty much all chunks of metal programmed to move this way or that have the capacity to break bones. Idk why you are blaming the AI component when there’s no real reason to blame it in this case. This incident was the result of a failure to follow (or uphold, I’m not necessarily looking to blame the child) safety protocols, which is the cause of many machine accidents.
I do think it’s maybe a risky idea to put kids in these situations. I mean, I’m no expert and dunno the statistics for this , but ppl do what they do w the assumed risks. I’d probably be in my feeling more if this was a factory incident and not something more voluntary idk
Also the machine didn’t really show much range of motion in the video I saw. Maybe that’s part of my different take 🤷🏾♂️ the headline makes it sound much more insidious than the video imo

This robot doesn’t have “advanced intelligence”, it’s just a dumb industrial arm without any safety interlocks running a chess program

Wtf
So it jus gorilla grips anything that gets close to it?
They already have chessboards with magnets in them. What's the point besides PR for robotics funding

It’s just trying to play chess and it’s not checking for the play area to be clear. If someone with any sense had created it they would have put safety logic in place so the robot stops if something enters it’s movement range. It’s really simple logic but they probably didn’t want to shell out the extra money for sensors/relays

so its actually too dumb
this would be like that basketball robot breaking its opponents leg in a pick up game
I mean, clearly it understood the objective
AI so smart that it figured out if your opponent is critically wounded during the match, you win by default F*** all that math s***, just KILL your opponent
