If you have to go through this much effort to defend this album, then chances are it’s not his best.
not my fault the majority are more influenced by superficial s*** than the actual music
I remember he said his last album was his final, then it flopped.
It’s probably his last as Childish Gambino. If he was ever retiring it was only the Gambino moniker
Some of yall niggas itt really have no taste at all
Taste is subjective, you could just admit they don't like the same things as you.
Even if it's under Childish Gambino, not like he's the first guy the claim retirement and come back lol
I didn't say it was mixed poorly
I'm saying I don't get their decision to mix the vocals like that where you can't even tell what the guy is saying on some songs.
Like I was going down the trackless praying he would have a normal voice but no, track after track after track.
The last track, the 21 savage track, and it feels like summer where the only tracks I walked away with.
Lol but if it was Kendrick his usage of different voices is versatile and amazing

Yeah but it's corny every time like now we know that was just a cheap marketing gimmick. The album wasn't even worth it either so it's kinda good he's not done. Hopefully he redeems himself.

you know I had a feeling someone would bring this up but there's a big difference.
Kendricks vocals are never mixed to the point where you don't understand what he's saying.
Kendrick for the most part only uses those weird voices only certain lines or maybe a verse, to bring about a certain emotion.
Gambino mixed his vocals on this like he was using it as an instrument in itself, like apart of the song.

is It too much to ask for an album with an actual title, a real cover and actual song titles?
Even Kanye at his most artistic/boundary pushing still kept some things traditional like song titles, album covers, album titles. Only real argument you could make against that is the Yeezus cover, but that was still a cover. It wasn’t just a blank white picture.
I know Gambino is a weird guy, but he hurt his album by trying to be “different”
The music on it itself is actual not bad imo. Some beautiful songs on it, but every time I look at the album on Apple Music, it’s a sore sight. It just makes me groan and roll my eyes. And YES THE OVERALL PACKAGE MATTERS.

I agree I hate this whole fake deep aesthetic he's been trying to pull off

guess this just boils down to opinion

I loved this

artists make art i don't think there's any rules at all on how that art is delivered

And there’s no rules to how that art is critiqued either.
Some people like yourself may think the Aesthetic and rollout was genius. Some of us, like myself thought it was a bit try hard when it didn’t have to be.
