It's very early and trigger-happy to talk about genocide, but at the very minimum there is discrimination, and from the sources I've been looking at, this is pointing clearly towards forced acculturation.

China doesn't even deny forced acculturation. Nor do they deny civil rights abuses. Those measures (reeducation camps, mass surveillance of mosque in Xinjiang, etc.) are justified in their eyes in the name of social cohesion. And this mindset extends beyond the Uyghur population, as any person in China is subject to mass surveillance by wrong think.

A lot of people are hesitant to use the word genocide. Genocide is the deliberate killing of a racial, political, or cultural group in large numbers. It gets flimsy when you start to assert these claims, especially depending on how you define genocide. Although you can definitely stretch it. Pretty sure users on this site can argue the systemic racist policies towards black people in the United States can fit under the UN definition of genocide at the very least.

I understand the hesitancy of using the word genocide-- I don't think it should quite be used either. My post is mostly directed towards a certain group of unhinged folks on the left who waive away aforementioned forced acculturation and civil rights abuses because it's China. I see them throughout social media, and now they're slowly creeping up on here.

And I agree with your second paragraph, don't get it twisted. If someone came up to me and said "The U.S. has been and is continuing to ethnically cleanse black people." I definitely would not argue with them. I've listed and argued about many American acts of ethnic cleansing within this very forum.

I just think it's funny that folks witness the exact same techniques utilized by the U.S. against Native Americans and other groups being deployed by CCP, and they now support it. They're so hellbent on fighting American imperialism that they're now supporting other imperial powers to contest it.
