i just did a deep dive in2 their discography a few months ago
i would just start with 3 imaginary boys & keep going, they have so many amazing songs man, even their bad albums have gems
great band, highly recommend
yeah two bass hit is crazy. The tempo on this album so far is unlike all the other jazz albums I heard prior
man there's so much energy in these pieces. I mostly been hearing vocal jazz and cool jazz albums, so this is catching off guard in a good way
Been pretty busy this week, so I didn't have the chance to do a write up
The first track really sets the tone for the rest of the album. So far I have only heard Blue Haze and Round About Midnight from his discog. I thought both were just decent, but I knew Miles is pretty acclaimed and celebrated when it comes to jazz, so I was waiting to get to the projects where he was really on his s***.
Two things about this album that stood out to me compared to other jazz albums I heard was just how fast paced and energetic a lot of the pieces were. Like compared to a lot of the vocal and cool jazz albums I been hearing. Dr. Jackle, Two Bass Hit really just come in and keep you entertained.
The other thing that stood out to me was just how distinctive the songs were. This might just be a result of how good the remastering is or something. But yeah idk maybe it's just me but a lot of the 50's jazz albums I been hearing, the songs kinda blend in togethe. This wasn't really the case here.
So far, I would say this probably the best jazz album I heard, or at least tied with The Clown
If this is more of what I can expect from Miles then i'm in
Favorite Tracks: Dr Jackle, Billy Boy
Least Favorite: Sid's Ahead
Current Album is Chuck Berry - One Dozen Berrys. I already gave it one listen, so I need to sit with it more. I love his debut, but Idk bout this one
I really enjoyed his debut, but ngl this one was disappointing. There's still some pretty nice songs on here, but overall it's missing the energy and songwriting that made the debut special. The album at times can feel slow and boring like a lot of other 50's albums, there also weren't really much standouts from this project as well.
Favorite Tracks: Sweet Little Sixteen, How You've Changed
Least Favorite: It Don't Take But A Few Minutes

i think it's way better. the clown isn't really one of my favorites from Mingus besides Haitian Fight Song

Well damn
jazz is too sexual if you listen it with women arround, don't do it

theres a few songs there where we literally hear moans
This album isn't far off from his debut, it still has some of the same qualities that made his debut good. It keeps the same energy and fun to it. I did see that this album is mostly just a comp of some his singles, (I mean most albums in the 50s were) but even more so with this and yeah that would makes sense. The best songs from this album are good, but don't really touch the highs on the debut, adding on that I feel like there's a lot of tracks that are kinda just there and don't really do much for me. But even with that, it was a decent listen.
Side note, since the album isn't on streaming I pretty much had to compile a playlist of all the songs from different compilations with different mastering and such. So that might of amplified the overall feel that the album was disjointed.
Favorite Tracks: Baby Face, Keep A Knockin
Least Favorite: All Around The World
