Need a rewatch immediately

saw this in imax.

really fun.

the tom holland scenes sucked as i'm sure many ppl have said already. i guess it wouldnt be a nolan movie without a terrible casting choice thrown in

overall i'm gonna give this a 7.5 out of 10 as a movie, but a 9 out of 10 as an imax experience. not a top 5 nolan movie for me

it might rise to an 8 on re-watch but the holland stuff is really harmful to this movie as a whole.

all the stuff on the journey home was stellar though

Whyd Nolan stop working with Hans?

Hans turned down working on Tenet to do Dune. And once someone says no to him, Nolan usually gives the next person he works with full commitment and gives them the first denial.

So even if he has no bad feelings against Hans, he's not going to stop working with Ludwig unless Ludwig says no.

But there may also be slight tension because it's on record that the score for Dunkirk was very stressful for both of them and kinda went up in flames because they were trying too much stuff. So maybe Hans felt he needed a few steps back. But now Ludwig's his boy.

tom holland reads his line as if he's reading off a script in his best american accent and impressing his 11th grade drama class

Odyssey and Oppenheimer are 2 of his best scripts though. His worst script was the one his brother helped him on (Rises)

he needs a writing partner who is classically trained (i.e. knows how to write human interactions not related to a giant action set piece).

This is Oppenheimer except an action adventure fantasy. Absolutely incredible

this is very true i think

he's one of my favorite filmmakers but Memento, Prestige, and Dark Knight were the main "good scripts" i thought he had. But I think Oppenheimer is excellent and I need to have more than one watch of the Odyssey to know. I was really struck by the writing in this one though.

Idk man. Holland surprised me hard here. He was pretty great. He perfectly conveyed the sympathetic son forced to grow up and become something he isn’t ready for because many others are stronger and more confident than him.

Yeah I don’t actually get what writing issues one has here. This is the tightest he’s ever handled exposition by a decent margin. Oppenheimers exposition works because the script is dense and meant to be more about science and facts and so you believe all the dialogue. But unlike his past movies which constantly relied on characters being talk boxes, here it felt they were a lot more natural as characters.
