It’s better imo
seeing something projected on 70MM is incredible but I’d choose the digital imax 10/10 times
S***
They literally can’t lol
A lot of the engineering knowledge they need to build those projectors has been lost from employees either dying or retiring
it’s the “we can’t do it anymore, we don’t know how” twitter bit irl
nearest one is 1.5hrs away
not awful
oh its definitely worth it for a movie you really care about. Rewatch or first watch
also true in chicago they did at a few amcs for this. I have a 70mm imax that opened about a hour from me in the burbs near parents. Going to go when it slows down some
IMAX
IMAX 70mm
70mm
all real need to make more of so more people go they selling like hot cakes they should have upgraded screens during pandemic
The screens aren’t the problem, apparently they just can’t make the projectors anymore. All of their OG engineers are either old af or dead, the blueprints weren’t conserved, and the individual parts aren’t being made anymore
Watching a cam rip of this on your ipad during a flight to philadelphia >>>> Imax 70mm

lucky asf. nearest one to me is close by but used for a museum.
Fr? I’m not super familiar with it, what makes it better? Just a brighter/sharper pic?
I’m going to a brand new IMAX with laser, literally was built a few months back and has heated seats and s*** I’m excited lol
At least with the one I have access to it has a bigger screen, better sound system, way more comfortable seats, and a consistent experience each time vs 70MM where all sorts of things can go wrong depending on who’s projecting it
Heated seats is wild though
pretty sure ur gonna be in for a great time
Movies. Popcorn. Soda.

yeah many musuems have crazy imaxs or imax domes but dont show movies

kind of true stankie
ah, so while cinephiles are screaming for more 70mm screens to be built, they’ve been actively tearing more and more down. Didnt realize this.
The theaters ripped them or made business decisions. IMAX just doesn’t do enough to protect what is now decades of lost screens
In DC area, we used to have an IMAX at Natural History Museum. Like 10 years ago, it was demolished to make extra space for a cafeteria at the protest of filmmakers. Before Air and Space changed to dual laser, there were two 70mm theaters a minutes walk from each other.
Only so much you can do when you get maybe 20% capacity for your museum films and only 1-2 IMAX 70mm come out a year if you’re lucky. That’s also why they don’t prioritize projectors either. If Nolan isn’t releasing, when are they used? These are HUGE things just sitting there

diassemble one you got now and rebuild it and copy the parts
kind of true stankie
Thank you, HaroldsChicken. I speak from the heart

Until you f*** something up and now you lost another projector

Suppose this makes sense. Hopefully, thanks to Nolan, IMAX and studios will see the demand for these theater experiences.

YOU MUST RISK ONE YOU PLATE LICKERRRRRRR
