i didnt like bane. his physicality was cool but the voice sucked and his backstory (the twist at the end) was pretty dumb.

if they re-did the voice it would do wonders for my appreciation of the character

The iconic voice work that is embedded in pop culture? This is like saying they missed with Darth Vader

I think sound mixing in general is a Nolan weakness. It's just less obvious in his more grounded movies. Tenet almost gave me an aneurysm

That first teaser that dropped a year out had me floating but something about the way it’s shaped up with more and more footage looks a bit flat to me for some reason.

    Yea…

As soon as they make the Bane Trilogy and then his origin trilogy we can compare the two fairly.

It's a pretty easy comparison as far as iconography is concerned. Which was the point.

I didn't mean to trigger people who like Star Wars. Y'all are beyond saving

    no... no it's not....

    DARTH VADER. STAR WARS.

not that i'm a fan -- but if you think Tom Hardy's Bane is on Darth Vader level, you're straight up incorrect. you used the word iconography yourself.

Yeah I am not moved at all tbh. Maybe they’re just saving the goods for the actual movie but these trailers have not felt as “epic” as this story is supposed to be. Quite difficult to put the finger on the pulse but you can just feel it, man. Just a strange sense of hollowness.

  • nolan low-key not as great with visuals as his reputation will let you believe, not surprising his epic looks kinda dull

Everyone knows the Bane voice. It's ubiquitous in pop culture.

Everyone knows the Vader voice. It's ubiquitous in pop culture.

That they happen to resemble each other superficially made it an apt comparison.

That you wear Darth Vader underwear is irrelevant.

ngl the idea of Nolan adapting anything let alone the odyssey is so much more interesting on paper than what’s been delivered so far

    That’s my biggest concern

Perfect example would be any Ridley Scott movie not named the last duel post gladiator. Big budget and beautiful looking movies with great casts but the story telling so bland and lifeless/ soulless you leave the movie feeling nothing and not caring about any of the characters that were in it

I’m saying news about a new Nolan film (for me at least) is a lot more exciting than what ends up being on screen

so: you go up to a rando in a bar and go "THE FIRE RISES" or "LUKE, I AM YOUR FATHER" (which isn't even correct), and you're gonna get the same response to both?

you actually think they're EUQAL? TDKR doesn't have half the hold on the general public that TDK does. Hardy's Bane, even less so to Ledger's Joker.

and: why are you talking about my underwear?

note: again, i am not even close to what you'd call a star wars fan. maybe i'm just older than you. Vader been around for 50 years. Bane, what, a quarter of that? we can't really be talking about reach here.

anyway, have a good day, new friend.

Hopefully we get a reset now, can’t just try throw a bunch of the same a list actors always in movies now and expect it to land

I kinda think this is my issue with the movie. The A list movie stars can’t get me to suspend my disbelief in the era this movie is set in. Not to mention Travis f***ing Scott.
