ThomForkThe Odyssey is a poem that was passed down through rhythmic spoken-word poetry, with the meter/rhythm being so strict and driven that it's difficult to replicate in English.
There's even studies out there that show it may have even been freestyled due to how often certain phrases are used in combinations with the available syllables. Very similar to rap freestyling.
It's not 1:1 obviously, but it's not some absurd idea to connect an ancient rhythmic spoken word style of poetry to the most popular rhythmic spoken word style of poetry of the modern world. Acting like it's a ridiculous comparison is just being contrarian and makes you sound like the people that say "rap isn't poetry" or "rap isn't music" or whatever.
I’m not even against Travis being casted or the idea of him reciting poetry
But if he seriously “raps” the poem in this movie, it’s going to likely be one of the most cringe scenes of the decade
