I ran into a handful of people blasting Circadian Rhythm in their cars in the past few days. Haven't had that with Drake in a while.
It’s lazy.
I’m expecting more musicianship from the biggest rapper in the world than just Splice loops
picking random examples from the top of my head but
do you think Real Friends by kanye is lazy? its just a frank dukes loop with drums. probably less function went into it becasue they didn't change the key or anything. just looped it and added drums
Pick Up The Phone by travis, 4pm in calabasas by drake are just frank dukes samples untouched (by your standards) with drums. tunnel vision by kodak is just a cubeatz sample with drums. jimmy cooks is just 2 cubeatz samples with drums.
if these were all from splice they'd be low effort and lazy, expecting more musicianship
also on musicianship , would you feel the same if he chopped vinyl? if he took 8 bars from a soul sample or some old synth record and added drums? thats lacking musicianship too.
the musicianship argument is a whole new one because that basically looks down on most of rap production
are splice loops LESS musical than a frank dukes sample? are they less musical than a vinyl record with 4 bars that loops throughout a beat? whats the difference that makes them less musical
if the circadian rhythm samples came from a vinyl record that Carnage found, and he flipped them the same way, would that make them MORE musical? if the content of the samples were the same? ofc not

Those are different because those samples were sent to those artists so the beats are basically co-productions between the sample makers and the drum layers.
Those Splice loops were available for literally anyone in the world to find and use.
Even crate digging and finding something on a vinyl to chop requires more care, effort, and attention.
I’m not looking down on rap production at all. But finding a cheap/free sample on a database that is publicly available for anyone to use, choosing three samples and barely making them your own, then throwing the most standard and basic of trap drums underneath it is the definition of lazy production.
The problem is that Circadian Rhythm sounds lazy, even without the knowledge of where the samples came from. That knowledge just makes it even worse
That trumpet synth stinks in the beginning but when it’s with the vocal sample in the chorus
This was supposed to flop but the people won't let it. Now niggas crying Drake still on top "How tf I'm still up?" is already aging like wine

Fair
Niggas still haven’t delivered an actual list of the TWENTY people who are against Drake?
seen it gaining traction on TikTok and stuff, so ion know bout not connecting
song is crazy infectious for how simple and short it is
My biggest gripe is how short it is, needs another verse
