I mean yea, it’s the first game but there’s a recap in this game that will catch you up on everything you need to know so you might be fine

It's worth playing through just to get a handle of how weird the world is plus it won't take you that long. It's not like with Alan Wake where the first one can be watched as a recap on YouTube and you'll be fine (because the gameplay is that bad) but Control has some cool stuff in the gameplay and a very memorable level near the end.

I say go for it. The story was nonsense to me but you might like it, and get a feel of the gameplay too.
