Rest in Power. His name was Kenneth and that’s about all we know about him right now. They are refusing to release body cam footage at this time. Going off eye witness reports. OPD pulled him over and claim he had a gun. According to them, there was a “altercation” before one of the cops fired. Evidently there will be a press conference later today. Will update thread as more information comes through.

This is very heartbreaking as the community was just healing from the murder of James Scurlock at the hands of a local white supremacist in June. His murderer, Jake Gardner killed himself before going to trial. It is about to be a long weekend. The masses of Omaha have shown they’re not afraid to fight cops, and the cops here are brutal. OPD is currently facing a lawsuit for illegally arresting and pepper spraying 150 of us this summer before leaving people to sit in horrible conditions in jail for over 36 hours despite almost everyone’s bail being posted.

Prayers up to Kenneth and his family and let’s hope we get some semblance of justice.

Confirmed the victim did have a gun, however he announced that he had one and he did not draw his firearm. Cops fired upon seeing the weapon. Protests kicking off at the police station in a couple hours. Things are likely to get wild.

Witnesses are saying the cops DRAGGED him out of the car. The cops then spun him around, which caused them to see the gun on his waist and then proceeded to fire into his back

I live in Omaha as well and was petrified after hearing this story break last night bc I have friends (POC around that age) who don't live far from there...luckily they're okay but this is a very disturbing story nonetheless and very sad...need to release that footage and the cops need to be punished if he indeed did not raise a gun at them...tired of hearing about this s***...OP didn't even include that Gardner's people are trying to have the charges against him thrown out bc of his suicide as if to imply he killed himself because he was wrongfully charged when really he killed himself because he was a cowardly bigot (plenty of evidence to showcase his bigotry and the special prosecutor even said most of the evidence that led to his charges were from Gardner himself i.e. his social media posts and messages bragging about wanting to shoot protesters)...just a whole sad disgusting ordeal
