Sweden definitely took an L, especially if it proves true that we'll have a vaccine by the end of the year as expected. History won't look kindly on not locking down or rushing efforts to reopen if the s*** is over by February. If it goes on 18 months/2 years or whatever, only then will the herd immunity route be even remotely understandable, but I don't see that as being likely.

    And Sweden's economy suffered anyway:

    bloomberg.com/news/articles/2020-05-19/sweden-in-very-deep-economic-crisis-despite-soft-lockdown

Biggest L goes to Brazil though for still not doing any testing. It's incredible how f***ed they are.

    Second point is def true

But it's kinda sad that they said economy > people tbh. Scandinavian countries are rich enough to be able to afford lockdowns.

    economy = people

a bad economy leads to a really bad place

Most of it is just fearmongering anyway and now that people go out and protest more and more, it shows how the media really cares about the Pandemic tbh

    Just look at your tweet
Never in this world Sweden will have 80,000 deaths

well despite having much more restrictive lockdowns,
Italy, Spain, the UK and Belgium all had more deaths per million residents than Sweden so who really took the biggest L?
sound like u the one who has no idea how it's working

There’s a lot of factors at play w Sweden, mostly that people actually follow govt guidance on hygiene and social distance without being forcibly locked down. Not like everyone there was/is just business as usual

what effect are the protests gonna have on this ?

    2nd wave maybe

  • if these protests dont cause a spike in deaths from covid in a few weeks then their models were vastly exaggerated from the start.

The pandemic been over for a solid month here in Ohio. I mean coronavirus still here, but mfs just decided it was over.

I went to the grocery store today and I was the only mf in there with a mask on looking like damn fool. Bars been open for weeks and crowded as hell. Movie theaters and amusement parks about to open soon too.

Just looking at it, it seems like May 31-June 6 was the least deadly week of the pandemic for California since mid April. I have to run the numbers, but no matter what it's close. This is noteworthy because our case totals have been climbing for weeks, to the point where it looks like things are getting out of hand.

What's interesting though is how steady the reporting was. No days that were especially quiet, but no more than 74 deaths reported on any given day. Days over 100 used to be very common.

What this means, I think, is that we've gotten a better handle on tracking and reporting nursing home infections. We used to have huge backlogs of nursing home deaths and that doesn't appear to have happened this week.
