    Vaccine update:

    https://www.thelancet.com/journals/lancet/article/PIIS0140-6736(20)31604-4/fulltext

"ChAdOx1 nCoV-19 showed an acceptable safety profile, and homologous boosting increased antibody responses. These results, together with the induction of both humoral and cellular immune responses, support large-scale evaluation of this candidate vaccine in an ongoing phase 3 programme."

We've been waiting on this data for weeks. Looks good!

Phase 3 trials will better determine length of antibody and t-cell protection.

Won't the vaccine stop you from getting it? So even if a bunch of people won't take the vaccine, they're the ones getting sick?

the problem with healthy, able bodied individuals refusing the vaccine on some antivax s*** is if a person who wants the vaccine but cannot take the vaccine due to an underlying condition or allergy (such is the case with some when it comes to an egg allergy and the flu shot). that person has to rely on everyone else to become vaccinated to protect them from the disease, which is what herd immunity is

    Chad

The idea that a bunch of scientists sat in a circle and were like "...the Chad vaccine vs the virgin SARS-CoV-2! Yes! That's it!" and started high-fiving each other is pretty heartwarming.

ay bro link me to those studies about the side effects

They usually show up on coronavirus subreddit and then I read few personal encounters with that from users. One dude mentioned that he was an active runner and gym person but after recovering from the virus, he can't run much anymore, he doesn't feel like himself and lungs don't work as they use to.

Some scary s*** if true tbh.

So, we have greatly increased testing resulting in finding a lot more cases, in turn our case numbers go up.

Prior to May 16th we had never given 400k tests in a single day. Since June we have given at least 400k tests everyday aside from one day. In July, we have given over 600k all but one day.

So it’s not surprising that our case numbers are increasing and idk that should really be alarming at all.

Deaths have dropped pretty significantly. So far in July, 13,915 people have died (average 695 a day). Where 20 days in April saw 43,734 people die (average 2186 a day).

Now a weird thing about this to me is that our hospitalization rate has jumped up pretty significantly. How are deaths down so much but more people are in the hospital? We have almost double the hospitalizations with a third of the deaths

Are hospitals allowing more people who aren’t in critical condition in due to overcrowding not being as big of an issue as expected, or are they finding better ways to treat it? Or are we about to experience a big boom in deaths? I feel like a boom in deaths should have happened already if the increased case numbers were actually caused by a second wave and not caused by increased testing

Younger people getting sick still require hospitalization in some cases but mostly don’t die. That and we can treat this a lot better now

  • Jul 20, 2020

No doubt case numbers being so high is due to both spread and increased testing

  • Jul 20, 2020

Anecdotal but my friend that got this had to go to the ER for a blood clot in the lung. He’s fine now but jeez 😬

Any stats on who is being diagnosed/admitted more rn? If it’s mostly younger people getting it currently that would make a lot of sense

Doesn’t do a great job of showing that the younger cases have been recent, but you can see the massive differences in demographic. I will say the huge age ranges they use make this kinda dumb tho

That sounds more like anaphylaxis than covid when described as choking, but they still should have been given a test wtf

Here in Los Angeles literally everyone that checks into a hospital is supposed to get a covid screening
