No, lmao we can't minimize the spread. It's 70 times more infectious that Delta and xxx times more than the original. We're all going to get it, but thankfully the vast majority of people will have a mild cough. Cases per day will be in the millions in the US even if we're "masked and distanced" in a full lockdown. Hence why Biden won't do it. The middle class also doesn't realize who gets their food and packages for them.
Humans are smart but we'd be f***ed if a worse virus came along, or hell, an asteroid. We've barely gotten past landing on the moon and we still haven't figured out life's biggest questions. We still have a lot to learn. Covid will do as Covid does, and eventually it won't be a big deal. We are not a variable.
millions of people aren't "masked and distanced" or even vaccinated hence why the numbers keep rising

Or maybe its the new variant + seasonality
Humans can only do so much to stop a viral spread lmao a new case doesnt always have targeted blame behind it
I just wanna know if this new variant is deadlier than the past ones
the south african doctors that discovered it are calling it mild
but its whatever i learned from my mistakes last time

This time last year they definitely were and yet thousands of people were dying per day. You can blame the south all you want but like Westside said it's seasonal. It hit the south last summer and the north last winter. It hit the south this summer and look where it's hitting this winter...the north.
You cannot achieve total compliance with mandates without turning the country into a dictatorship. There are always rebels, you'd have to force them to do it at gunpoint or worse. Even then, you still won't know if it works. In other words it was never going to be possible
I was about to book a booster shot but I can't find my health card
you can get another from whoever you got your shots from

obviously you can't force everyone to get vaccinated or wear masks but the people who don't are a big factor in the virus continuing to spread

This is true but apparently the vaccine doesn't stop transmission very well. That's one of the big reasons why we don't have a chance in hell to stop this wave and just have to ride it out
"If we all wore masks we could stop it"
watched No Way Home night 1 and me and my bro were the only ones with masks on
at that point you might as well not one but I said f*** it
hopefully these delta antibodies do sum for me

"the vaccine doesn't stop transmission well"
how did you conclude that?

Because Cornell's campus had 900 positive tests and nearly all of them were fully vaccinated. I'm vaccinated and if it's true I'm gonna be pissed but we can't ignore that

i'd bet that these were people not wearing masks/social distancing
i'd bet that these were people not wearing masks/social distancing
I'm gonna try to make this simple for you. If the vaccine prevents transmission, there's no need to wear a mask or social distance. In fact, that was exactly what the CDC said earlier this year. If it spread, and very easily, amongst those people, the vaccine does not prevent transmission. Comprende?

the fact that masks were made mandatory for people who are vaccinated

pretty clear indicator to me that new variant is less severe than both original strains.
med.hku.hk/en/news/press/20211215-omicron-sars-cov-2-infection
A study led by researchers from the LKS Faculty of Medicine at The University of Hong Kong (HKUMed) provides the first information on how the novel Variant of Concern (VOC) of SARS-CoV-2, the Omicron SARS-CoV-2 infect human respiratory tract. The researchers found that Omicron SARS-CoV-2 infects and multiplies 70 times faster than the Delta variant and original SARS-CoV-2 in human bronchus, which may explain why Omicron may transmit faster between humans than previous variants. Their study also showed that the Omicron infection in the lung is significantly lower than the original SARS-CoV-2, which may be an indicator of lower disease severity. This research is currently under peer review for publication.

Youd think more transmission and lower severity would be a good thing

once again: nothing can COMPLETELY prevent transmission
the vaccine, wearing a mask, social distancing, etc can only DECREASE THE LIKELIHOOD of transmission
re read that a couple of times

People can be so ignorant lmao….wearing a seatbelt doesn’t guarantee that you’ll be good after a car crash, but it gives you a better chance
I don’t get why people can’t comprehend that wearing a mask/getting a vaccine can help even if it’s not 100% a “cure”…it’s still better than nothing
Youd think more transmission and lower severity would be a good thing
It is lol
The severity of overall disease in the entire population does depend on how much more infectious it is vs how much less severe it is tbf, but i havent seen a lot of ppl mention that tbh
We're having another full lockdown in the Netherlands rn despite both infections and/or hospitalizations being on the decline, their reasoning is that the percentage of infections that are omicron variant is increasing, but why does that matter if it doesn't come with an increase in infections and/or hospitalizations?
It's like in a lot of people's minds it's "new virus name = bad"
