You been following this news at all?

    https://www.npr.org/sections/goatsandsoda/2022/01/05/1070046189/a-texas-team-comes-up-with-a-covid-vaccine-that-could-be-a-global-game-changer

Basically, a team in TX is working on a low cost and patent-free vax based on a project started for SARS that they hope to distribute to the world and are already beginning to. Only real downside is that it’s not as adaptable to variants, but they’re doing great work to actually address the countries that aren’t being served by the current vaccines.

One of the few bright spots in the current situation that I’m choosing to focus on lol

There is also a syringe shortage but I feel like Americans kind of just are so centered on demonizing the unvaccinated in their country that they dont realize that if in other countries people dont even have the option then variants will keep breaking through. We could be 100% vaccinated but then without booster it fades some and winter hits everyone heavy. Mandates and saying "you cant go indoors " including to the homeless in the freezing cold in a pandemic isnt as productive as some think

You’re not wrong. I hope this initiative at least starts the process of getting the rest of the world vaccinated. I’ve lost hope in Americans getting their heads out of their asses

Booster not really doing much as far as preventing infections, but it’s doing a great job of keeping symptoms mild. My whole family has gotten this within the past 3 weeks but thankfully they’ve been all cold-like symptoms

    https://www.politifact.com/factchecks/2022/jan/04/facebook-posts/omicron-risk-claim-vaccinated-missing-key-context/

“The a***ysis did show that COVID-19-infected people who had received three doses of a vaccine were 4.5 times more likely to have a positive test compatible with omicron compared with an unvaccinated person who tested positive for COVID-19, Cooke said.

It’s worth noting that the U.K. studies compared populations of people who had tested positive for COVID-19. Those who didn’t contract omicron would have been infected by another variant, possibly one associated with more serious health effects.”

So studies are finding that vaccinated are more likely to catch Omicron, though this article argues that this isn’t important because unvaccinated are still more likely to catch other variants. I feel like that’s pretty sketchy though that there is now a strain that is more likely to infect vaccinated people? I would assume the vaccinated crowd is more likely to catch Omicron but are still less likely to die from it? Any data on that?

Also pretty sure I have Omicron rn despite being vaccinated. Had the flu 2 weeks ago so I doubt it’s the flu again

You're misinterpreting it. It's not that people who are vaccinated are more likely catch omicron than those who are unvaccinated, it's that among the people who got vaxed and are infected, it's more likely that it's the omicron variant instead of any other compared to unvaccinated ppl

Folks on Twitter are saying it was due to contaminated samples, but for my sanity I’m just going to leave it at that and not look any further into it lmao

Ohh I see what you’re saying. Idk why they don’t bust supply the actual numbers instead of ratios like these. Like, say exactly how many people actually have the omicron and of those people, how many are vaxxed. Thank ya
